Just could not resist this little confection of silver and crystal, although I rarely if ever get assembled pieces. The under-plate and lid are swirling with repousse rocailles and the crystal bowl is partially fluted. A lovely display piece, candy dish or condiment serving piece.
Condition: all parts in very good condition. But the crystal is a bit too large for the under-plate and the lid. The dish is 6" in diameter, 1.5" high and weighs 235 grams. The lid is 4.5" diameter, 1.75" high and weighs 85 grams. That's a total 320 grams .950 French sterling silver! The bowl is 4.5" diameter & 3.5" high. « Less

Pristine set comprising 2 decanters and 12 shot glasses produced by renowned master smith Louis Coignet, successor Charles-Alfred Coignet in 1893. Louis XVI styling, with More »
Pristine set comprising 2 decanters and 12 shot glasses produced by renowned master smith Louis Coignet, successor Charles-Alfred Coignet in 1893. Louis XVI styling, with repousse braided laurel leaf borders on the solid .950 sterling shot glasses, as well as the sterling decanter collars and stoppers. The shots all generously coated with 18k gold interiors. The set comes in the original box, lined with white silk and softest glove quality suede. There remain applied "argent garanti" labels on many of the pieces, which suggests the set was never used. The superb condition of the set would confirm this. The only signs of age are a slight discoloration of portions of the lining, mild wear on the outer box, and a light hairline scrape or two on the crystal. Of course, there are no monograms. All silver is marked with the French guarantee for .950 sterling; the Minerve 1st titre; as well as the Louis Coignet maker's punch. Understated elegance, excellent condition and completeness make this offering an excellent gift.
Dimensions: the decanters slightly vary in size. One is 7.75" tall, 3.25 diameter at the widest. The other is 7.5" tall, 3" diameter. The shot glasses are 1 5/8" tall, 1.5" diameter at the tops. « Less

Risler Carre, a very well known and highly regarded Parisian silversmith, produced some fabulous French Empire piece is the mid-1800s. This wheel cut crystal casket, encased and lidded in sterling silver covered with 18 carat gold is a fine example from this period. Napoleonic laurel wreaths alternate with stylized swans spanning the crystal. The edges are finely decorated with laurel borders. The lid also incorporates a stiff leaf border. The finial, handle is mounted with acanthus leaf designs. The base is deeply cut with a star-burst pattern to reflect light.
Dimensions: 3 7/8" diameter, 4 1/2" high including the lid and finial, 2 1/2" high without the lid.
Marks: both lid and body are marked with the minerve French silver standard guarantee and the maker's mark for Risler Carre. The base is also stamped Risler Carre.
Condition: mild signs or use; some wear to the gold and a couple of scratches on the crystal. These imperfections are minor. « Less

So very rare to find cruet sets in good condition from 1800-1813! This one has a sterling silver stand made by Rebecca Eames & Edward Barnard; very well known silver crafters More »
So very rare to find cruet sets in good condition from 1800-1813! This one has a sterling silver stand made by Rebecca Eames & Edward Barnard; very well known silver crafters from this period, for excellent quality and table ware sets in particular. The female silversmiths are also quite rare; so much so that their pieces are somewhat over represented at Sothebys. The stand is dated 1812-1813. It bears royal crest marks in the center top of the stand. The stand is beautifully made of heavy sterling silver with gadrooned edges at the base, four paw feet, shell and foliate designs. The cruets are dated earlier; 1800-1801. They all have matching wheel cut glass and sterling silver tops. The silver spouts match, as do the handles. Design here is simple, with modest decoration. The maker's marks are rubbed; so it is not known if they were made by Eames and Barnard. The bottles and jar all fit perfectly into the stand. One of the cruets has a very early repair; a sterling silver bottom in place where the crystal evidently broke, a hairline crack and the handle has been soldered. The cruet holds fluid perfectly, so it's function is in no way compromised. The stopper tops are in good condition, an ocasional nick, only one large enough to show in a picture. There are light signs of usage on the glass, and set overall.
Dimensions: the stand is 7 1/2" high, 7 1/2" wide and 5 1/2" deep; it weighs 15 ounces! The cruet bottles are all different sizes. One is 7 1/4" high, 2" diameter and 2 3/4" at the widest (spout to handle). Two is 7" high, same diameter and maximum width. Three is 6" high, 1 6/8" wide and 1 1/2" diameter. The silver topped jar is of ovoid shape. It is 4 3/4" high, 2 1/2" by 1 3/4" and 3 1/4" at the widest. The spoon is definitely by a different maker, William Gale & Son. So it is doubtless not part of the original set. It also has a monogram on it: V.S.B.
We are certainly pleased to bring you such a fabulous cruet set over two hundred years old and still an object of great beauty and utility! « Less

Stunning gold washed .950 sterling silver mounted crystal bottle cooler. Decorated in french Empire style, the base is partially fluted, banded and boasts bell flowers and laurel sprays on a textured ground. The rim is pierced repousse bell flowers with a 'beaded' edge. The handle is a beautiful confection of 'mounted pearls', and there is fine sterling silver insert to keep the bottle above the melted ice. The crystal, likely Baccarat, is lavishly decorated with frosted textured swaths adorned with bows, floral swags and gold accents; the crystal is also partially fluted at the base. The bottom is cut in a star pattern. Condition is excellent, no flaws noted. A very elegant table accessory by one of France's premier master silver smiths.
Dimensions: Combined height nearly 10"! The bucket is 6.25" tall, the top 5.75" diameter, the base 4.25" diameter, and the handle is 7" long, 3.75" tall.
Marks: .950 sterling guarantee, maker's punch for Emile Puiforcat. Difficult to date exactly; likely early 1900's. Calling it 'vintage'. « Less

Late Islamic Glass Vessel - GF.0332, Origin: Israel, Circa: 1200 AD to 1600 AD, Dimensions: 8" (20.3cm) high, Collection: Near Eastern, Style: Late Islamic, Medium: Glass, This stunning example of late Islamic glass work astounds the viewer with its sumptuous beauty. The rounded body contrasts sharply with the elegantly thin and elongated neck of the vessel. The rich green glass is accentuated and highlighted by rich swirls of golden color. It must have been the prized possession of someone who lived hundreds of years ago, but its special qualities have not faded. It must certainly appeal to the connoisseur of art and the lover of history, to whom its beauty and historical value will never fade. « Less

In exquisite miniature, this pitcher imitates larger glass vessels in everyday use. Created from a few drops of molten glass, it may well have contained the rarest bit of essence or perfume when Rome was at her peak. The passage of centuries has given it a rich iridescence, the shimmering aura of a baroque pearl. As we contemplate this charming object, we cannot help but wonder what function it served so long ago. Did it hang around the neck of some legendary beauty, filling her senses with sweet perfume? Did it capture a single tear from the eye of a mourner to be buried with some beloved friend? Was it the grave gift of a child, a miniature version of the glass vessels buried with adults? Its past, like its size, poses only mystery. Yet, as we hold it today, delighting in its perfection, we share our pleasure with those who lived in a distant age. - (GF.0289) « Less

As we contemplate this charming object, we cannot help but wonder what function it served so long ago. Did it hang around the neck of some legendary beauty, filling her senses with sweet perfume? Did it protect against some common ailment or keep the wearer free from the excesses of drinking? Its past remains as much a mystery as its size. Time has robbed this glass vessel of its ancient contents, but has replaced them with a rich, silvery patina the color of moonlight on the sea. If perfume had a visual form equivalent to its scent, it would shimmer like the peacock hues on this flask. Such are the whims of time: something is lost, something entirely different but equally delightful is gained. We cannot help but feel a slight melancholy for the vanished world that created this vessel, but we are rewarded by the delicate patina only time could have given us. - (GF.0312) « Less
