A superb watercolor portrait of Louis XIV on ivory, circa 1849. Framed under glass in a mahagony and rosewood frame that measures 11"x 10 1/2". The portrait measures approx. 3 1/2"x 3". There is an old label on the back which dates the piece to 1849. There is also a date on the wood that to me looks like 1744. A beautiful piece, great patina on the frame, minor rolling of the portrait. No signatures visible « Less

There is an old paper attached to the back. The painting is 3 1/4"x 2 3/4" and the frame is 4 1/2"x 5 1/2". The oval metal has one small area of oxidation on the bottom. Hans Teppich was born in Germany in 1904. After finishing High-School in Berlin he learned woodcarving and worked in a furniture factory for three years. During this period he studied art in evening classes, and then continued studying for ten more years in morning classes in the “Kunstgewerbe und Handwerkerschule†in Berlin. He acquired a broad range of art education, including: drawing, sculpture, metalwork, bronze casting, metal turning, and interior design. Hans Teppich won many prizes during his studies for different projects in which he participated. His bronze and stone sculptures of animals were presented in an exhibition at the Berlin Zoo. « Less
