Gilt silver plique a jour and cloisonne enamel oyster / hors d''oeuvre cocktail set cased in original fitted box, made by Marius Hammer, Bergen, Norway late 19th - early More »
Gilt silver plique a jour and cloisonne enamel oyster / hors d''oeuvre cocktail set cased in original fitted box, made by Marius Hammer, Bergen, Norway late 19th - early 20th century. MINT. Forks are approx 4 1/4 inches long. Serving spoon is 5 1/8 inch long. Set consists of 6 2-pronged forks, each with a different floral arrangement in plique a jour cloisonne and a central serving spoon, (a little like a caddy spoon, but substantially larger), made of exquisite plique a jour and cloisonne enamel. The silver is gilded, as can be see in the ''photos and the handles are twisted, the server being bigger, wider and more substantial than ther forks. The colours of the enamel are stunning and range from yellow through greens and blues to red. Beautiful unique tiny floral depictions - each a work of art. The serving spoon is quite outstanding, combining the plique a jour and cloisonne enamel technique in the bowl and with beautiful enamelling on the end of the twisted and scrolling handle. Each piece has impressed 900 silver hallmark, MH and Marius Hammer logo. Condition is excellent, especially considering the age and delicacy of the items. Comes in original fitted box. The bottom is lined with velvet and the inside of the lid in silk with gold lettering M. HAMMER JUVELEER BERGEN (M Hammer, Jeweller, Bergen). Condition of box is great with silk and velvet in great shape. Status: For Sale Reference#: 2858 Condition: good Year: 1900 Title: M HAMMER SILVER PLIQUE-A-JOUR ENAMEL BOX SET « Less

Antique Victorian cased pink glass epergne in the form of 3 Jack in the Pulpit flowers fanning out of a bowl. Made in England by either Thomas Webb or Stourbridge. Base is about 10inches accross. Total height is 15 1/4inches. Cased opalescent glass, pearly white in parts, pink running to ruby red stems in others. Base has frilly edges in pink and white with a conical center that has a greenish tinge towards the point. Here the stems converge in brass holders seperated by a brass flower. English carved ivory figure /head of famous caricature, Dr. Syntax, created by Thomas Rowlandson in the 18th century. The head is antique, and probably dates to the period (18th century), but the round base is a later addition and may be bone. Total height is slightly under 2 1/2 inches. The well-known cartoonish face with pointed chin coming up to meet pointed nose, big puffy hair/wig wonderfully depicted eyes. Great detail to brows, hair and toothless mouth.Very good condition. ********Thomas ROWLANDSON was born in London, England in 1756. He was the son of an unsuccessful merchant. He nevertheless received a decent education and travelled extensively in Europe and the British Isles. He was to become on the of most famous political lampoonists and caricaturists of his age - the era of King George III. There was little censorship at the time & some ''vicious'' cartoons were drawn of political figures. Even Royalty did not escape. Rowlandson turned his talent as a draughtsman, etcher and engraver of aquatints, to good advantage. Perhaps his most enduring works are the plates drawn for the very successful ''DR SYNTAX'' series of books. Status: For Sale Reference#: 2722 Condition: See Description Year: See Description « Less
