Circa 1880. Tall, Victorian, mirrored cabinet in solid mahogany. This is one of the most striking and unusual pieces of 19th century American furniture we have ever owned. Very high quality, with exceptionally detailed cabinetry in a deceptively simple design. All the drama of this piece on first viewing is the sheer size. It stands nine feet ( 108") tall but only 49" wide at the widest point (top of crown). The next thing that you see is the five sections of mirror, perfect for display or books, each with a single large central star, that are flat on the face side but deeply cut in the shape of a starburst from the backside. The cabinet has two doors and two drawers with original brass hardware. The door has a working lock and key. There is a repair on the door which we have made to fill a hole left by an inappropriate piece of hardware that we removed. All of the panels on the front and sides of the cabinet and on the columns that hold the four narrow shelves are an unusual raised panel in what I would call a pyramid shape. This fine piece of antique furniture also retains it's original pine plank back which is finished on the interior of the cabinet The cabinet also has it's original central shelf. Very good over-all condition with some old repairs and restorations, and some unevenness to the moldings around the drawers that could be fixed if desired. We have re-glued and re-polished the entire cabinet so that everything looks and functions well, much better and more even toned in person than the pictures which were difficult to take and light on such a tall, narrow piece of furniture. 108" tall x 46" wide at the base x 26" deep. Price 4800. « Less

Superb, all original R. J. Horner vitrine. Rarely do we find complete, original, high end furniture that is truly new to the market. Fresh from an estate, this piece has been handed down in one family since it was new. An excellent example of fine American furniture (Horner is a very well regarded NYC maker) in a French taste. This lovely china cabinet has the nicest cast gilt brass detail I have seen, especially the two level top frieze in which the "curtain and tassel" portion juts out about 3/4" over the the undulating leaf and curlicue that band the top of the glass portion. As seen in the pictures, even the back of the cabinet has the curtain and tassel trim, across the top and directly over the original RJ Horner tag. The display cabinet is solid mahogany in it's fine, smooth original finish with only some minor light areas probably from sun exposure. All original curved glass and two glass shelves. Original fancy key and working lock. The back is lined with fabric in very good condition. The top has a brass gallery and a stone top surface that may be faux finished to look like pink and gray marble, both are in fine original condition. No missing or broken pieces, glass, wood or brass. Excellent patina on both the brass and wood. 55" tall x 27" wide x 13 1/2" deep. « Less

All original Anglo-Japanesque, Aesthetic Movement, bamboo, rattan and wood music cabinet. Unusually fine original condition along with good design and useful size make this a stand out piece of Victorian furniture. Most probably English in origin, used to store sheet music in a music room or parlor, this cabinet would be equally at home in a modern, Asian or Victorian styled bathroom with four original shelves behind the flower decorated door and two generous shelves beneath for towels, storage or display. No missing pieces or replacements, small areas of wear to the rattan covering the shelves the worst of which is a burn on the top shelf that can be seen in the pictures. We have re-glued, cleaned and polished the entire piece and it is in handsome, sturdy, usable condition. 53" tall x 19" wide x 14 1/2" deep. « Less

Superb and very rare, American Victorian leaf cabinet in mahogany. This beautiful cabinet is fresh from one of Brooklyn's finest brownstones. It is a wonderful example of hi-style American parlor furniture of the last quarter of the 19th century with design elements of Rococo, in the form of spectacular pierce carved sides and crest, the large side pieces featuring a stylized dragon swallowing it's tail, Renaissance Revival in detailed incised carving and columns and Aesthetic Movement with a Greek Key detail. The entire piece is done in highly figured solid mahogany and mahogany veneers. The primary function of this rare piece of furniture was to store up to ten table leaves. The form the cabinet takes is of a narrow but deep server or etagère with a glass-doored and glass sided display cabinet on the bottom that has one shelf (original wood or glass replacement, we have both) and one wood shelf between the carved sides. There is also room for display on both the server surface and the top. The cabinet has original, large set under casters for easy movement. The only restoration we have done is to remove the wood knobs that were not original and to replace the locks and brass keyholes. We have also cleaned and waxed. The only damage is some loss of veneer along the very bottom edge of the cabinet, which is easily fixed and which we will do if desired. The only other modifications that we can see is newer felt on the inside of the leaf cabinet to pad the leaves. Added old working locks. Very fine old finish. 72" tall x 34 1/2" wide x 29" deep. « Less
