Vintage, signed Charlotte Rhead Bursley-Ware ceramic pitcher / jug. Made in England in the H.J. Wood factory, early 1940''s. Measurements:height just under 5 3/4 inches; approx 7 inches front to back. Generous jug / pitcher with mottled oatmeal / cream and grey base with green trim on both upper and lower rims (inside and out) and green handle. Moulded ridged pattern around the wide spout and along the sides of the handle add subtle interest. Both front and back have tube-lined, brightly coloured pattern, with elongated blue foliage with black detail, stylised amoeba-like flowers with a trellis/diamond pattern with subtle outlining and details and raised golden enamel ''jewel-like'' dots signifying curved, elegant flowers. Swishes in different colours may represent little butterflies, and add to the visual interest and balance. Blue disks with black and green detail may also signify a part of the plant, but they also serve to anchor & secure it visually. The name of the pattern is not known and may be an experimental pieces. Marked underneath the jug with Bursley-Ware Charlotte Rhead England in script; a green scrawl that might be a 2 and a faint handwritten number in grey. The original sticker from the previous owner is still stuck on the bottom. (this is from an impressive collection of glass and pottery). 3 black dots under the mark clearly had a significance to the artists, but is lost to us today. Very good condition - no chips/cracks/damage/restoration of any sort. Status: For Sale Reference#: 3621 Condition: good Year: 1940 Title: SIGNED CHARLOTTE RHEAD HJ WOOD BURSLEY WARE PITCHER « Less
