DESCRIPTION:
Here we have another stunning longcase clock from Cheshire Grandfather Clocks. This is fabulous antique oak eight-day brass faced, longcase / grandmother clock, which is of the most exquisite petite proportions. This century old piece has been created in exquisite Jacobean style. It is extremely rare to find a grandmother clock which is super quality weight driven which adds to the special quality of the lovely clock.
The case is also wonderful being made from solid oak which has the most fantastic patina. The whole case including the back board is all solid oak.
If we start with the hood this has a flat top which is finished off with a lovely cornice. Lovely delicate barley twist columns flank the hood door with nice back splats. If we then move down to the trunk this has beautifully full-length door which has the most fabulous geometric mouldings. The door is complete with it's lock which is fully working and which has the most wonderful decorative key as can be seen in the photographs. As with the trunk door the base incorporates some superb geometric moldings and is raised on bun feet.
The eight-day movement striking on a gong, has a square brass face with a silvered chapter ring marked with large Roman numerals with small Arabic numerals above.The four corners are adorned with beautiful cherub spandrals whilst the centre incorporates beautiful engraved floral design. The face is beautifully clean which made it extremely difficult to photograph.
The case has the most exquisite patina which is difficult to convey through photographs.
The clock is happily ticking away, and keeping good time. The movement is nice and clean as can be seen from the photographs. It comes complete with its weight, pendulum and winding key.
DIMENSIONS:
The approximate dimensions are:
- 71 inches high
- 13.5 inches wide across the base
- 9.75 inches wide across the trunk
- 15.25 inches wide across the hood (across cornice).
As can be seen from the above dimensions this clock is of lovely slim and petite proportions.
AGE:
The clock is circa 1900.
CONDITION:
The clock is in superb condition as can be seen from the photographs, just minor marks commensurate with age and careful use. The clock is happily ticking away, and keeping good time. The movement is nice and clean as can be seen from the photographs.

DESCRIPTION:
This is a lovely early mahogany longcase clock which is in superb condition and has a lovely bird cage movement. The clock is in perfect working order having recently been cleaned and serviced. This clock is absolutely perfect for anyone looking for a clock to place straight into their home.
If we start with the hood, this has a flat top and is finished with a shaped molded cornice. Pretty turned columns which terminate in brass capitals flank the hood door. To the rear are quarter turned columns which again terminate in brass capitals.
If we then move down to the trunk it has a lovely full length door which has some wonderful mahogany grain. The door is also complete with it's lock and key which is fully working. Finally the base is raised on a plinth base.
The dial with makers name of 'Kemp, Lewes', has the four corners adorned with wonderful cottages and the centre has a superb painting of a bird and a lovely gilded flower below the date aperture. The dial is set out with Arabic Numerals with small Arabic Numerals above the quarter hours. There is date aperture nicely edged in gold leaf. The dial also has the most wonderful fretted fingers.
The movement is 30 Hour duration and is lovely early bird cage movement. The movement is in perfect working order and is lovely and clean as can be seen from the photographs.
There is one 'Kemp, Lewes' listed in 'The Clockmakers of Sussex by E.J. Tyler'. There is a list of notes regarding this maker the key points of which are:
'Kemp, William; Lewes: baptised 1722; buried 1798'. Bull Lane 1790'. It is also worth note that Richard Comber, a renowned Lewes clockmaker was apprenticed to William Kemp from 1754 to 1762 and William Kemp was in partnership with John Holman from 1787 until the dissolution of the partnership in 1795'.

This is an exquisite mahogany long case clock, which is of super grand proportions. It has an eight-day movement on a broken arch painted face with rolling moon. This truly is a majestic clock which has the most fantastic mahogany case and is incredibly detailed.
If we start with the hood, this has swan necks with arched moulded cornice and is finished which lovely carved pateras to the centre of the swan necks is a wonderful pediment. The hood door is beautifully inlaid with chequer board stringing and is flanked by superb cluster columns. Above the hood door is also inlaid and there are three superb oval panels of inlay. The centre panel contains an urn with a flower and the two outer panels contain flowers.
Moving down to the trunk, the lovely shaped triple peak full length door is flanked by cluster columns and there is a lovely half carved applied acorn to the centre peak. The door contains the most wonderful flame of mahogany. Above the door are three lovely oval of inlay containing an acorn and acorn leaves and below each of the cluster columns there is an oval panel of inlay.
The base is is again beautifully inlaid with stringing with the centre panel having a wonderful flame of mahogany, the front corners are canted and again have been beautifully inlaid with chequer board stringing. The base is then raised on lovely ogee bracket feet.
The eight-day movement has a broken arch painted face with rolling moon and subsidiary second dial and date dial. The four corners are beautifully adorned with beautiful delicately painted flowers and strawberries. The clock has the most very pretty fingers. The dial bears the makers name 'JONES, STOCKPORT'.
AGE / MAKERS DETIALS:
There is only one JONES of STOCKPORT listed in 'Greater Manchester Clocks & Clockmakers by Edmund Davies':
'JONES, JOHN, Stockport, born 1753-died1800. His gravestone at st. Mary's reads
Beneath was interred the remains of John Jones of Stockport, watchmaker who departed this life 1st August 1800 in the 47th year of his age-

Who in his life did wit and virtue prize,
But now we trust he's gone into this bliss

This an exquisite round-faced eight-day longcase clock of pretty petite proportions. This type of clock is often referred to as a fine Liverpool ‘library’ clock. This clock is absolutely perfect for anyone looking for a clock to place straight into their home.
The case is a wonderful flame mahogany with a shaped pediment cresting to the hood. The hood door is flanked with full fluted columns with terminate in brass Corinthian capitals whilst the glass is surrounded by a lovely brass bezel.
The trunk has a pretty door which is framed with lovely delicate moulding and is flanked by chamfered corners. The base also has a lovely frame of moulding and is raised on ogee bracket feet.
The eight-day movement with maker’s name of 'Jno Wood, Liverpool', striking the hour has a circular painted face. There is one John Wood of Liverpool listed in ‘Watchmakers & Clockmakers of the World Volume 2 by Brian Loomes’:
Wood - John. Liverpool. 1814 – 28. (B. 1796 – 1824).
John Wood of Liverpool is also listed in ‘Lancashire Clocks and Clockmakers by Brian Loomes’:
Wood, John. Liverpool. 28 Wapping in 1814; 5-7 Church St, 1822-8. Liverpool museum have a watch said to be c 1805.

This is wonderful oak and mahogany longcase clock which is exceptionally detailed. The clock is in perfect working order having recently been cleaned and serviced. This clock is absolutely perfect for anyone looking for a clock to place straight into their home.
If we start with the hood, this has swan necks which have lovely brass pateras. Pretty full turned columns flank the hood door. The door is mahogany and boxwood inlaid and has a pretty little brass knob. Above the hood door is nicely inlaid.
If we then move down to the trunk it has a lovely shaped door. The centre is inlaid with a pretty bird. The door is complete with it's lock and key. The trunk door is flanked by full turned columns. Above the door is inlaid with very detailed inlays. Then below the door is a panel with a lovely conch shell to the centre and framed with detailed inlay. There is also lovely fine inlays below the trunk pillars.
The base has canted front corners and is cross banded in mahogany. It has a band of circular inlay and then to the centre is a further inlay which incorporates a flower. Finally the base is raised on superb ogee bracket feet.
The dial with maker’s name of 'Topham, NANTWICH', has the four corners adorned with beautiful delicate pheasants which have been created in superb colours. The arch has been beautifully painted with a hunting scene. There is one 'Topham, NANTWICH' listed in ‘Clockmakers of Cheshire by Keith Appleby':
'TOPHAM James NANTWICH. Clock & Watchmaker. At Pillory Street 1834. Hospital Street 1842 - 51. Willaston 1852. High Street 1854 - 60'.
The movement is 8 day duration and is in prefect working order having been recently cleaned and serviced, and has the most wonderful fretted fingers.

This is wonderful oak longcase clock which is in perfect working order having recently been cleaned and serviced. This clock is absolutely perfect for anyone looking for a clock to place straight into their home.
If we start with the hood, this has swan necks which have lovely brass pateras. To the centre of the swan necks is a lovely turned finial. The hood door is mahogany veneered. Pretty full turned columns which terminate in brass capitals flank the hood door.
If we then move down to the trunk it has a lovely full length door which is arched to the top. The door has a lovely brass escutcheon and is complete with it's lock and key. The front to the trunk has lovely canted corners.
The base has a nicely shaped apron.
The dial with maker’s name of 'A. Laing of STAMFORDHAM' has the four corners adorned with beautiful flowers which have been created in superb colours. The arch has been beautifully painted with a young maiden set against a lovely exotic background'. There is one 'A. Laing of STAMFORDHAM' listed in ‘Clockmakers of NORTHUMBERLAND and DURHAM by Keith Bates':
'Laing, Andrew. 1790 - 1827 Stamfordham. Clock & Watchmaker. 8 day painted dial longcase clock with arch scene of a lady, flowers corners, Roman hours, date and second dials, matching brass hands, minutes not numbered. ca 1830'.

A wonderful oak longcase clock which is of lovely petite proportions. The movement is 30 hour on a superbly painted dial and the case is the most wonderful patina. It is difficult to convey through photographs the lovely rich colour of the case. The photograph of the base if best represented in the photograph of the base.
The hood has a pretty shaped pediment. The hood door is flanked by superbly shaped carved columns with nicely shaped back splats. Moving down to the trunk, there is a full length door with a pretty shaped edge. The base is then raised on a plinth base.
The 30 hour movement with maker’s name of 'Jas Hughes, Wootten Bassett' striking the hour has an painted face and date aperture. The four corners are adorned with very finely painted flowers which incorporate gold leaf.
DIMENSIONS:
The approximate dimensions are:
- 76.75 inches high
- 19 inches across the hood
- 14.5 inches across the trunk
- 17.5 inches across the base
As can be seen from these dimension this is a clock of lovely proportions.
AGE:
From the style of this clock it is circa 1820.

This is a wonderful 8-Day oak longcase clock which is in superb condition and is in perfect working order. The dial is the most superb arched dial as can be seen from the photographs.
If we start with the hood, this has swan necks, which have lovely brass pateras. Below the swan necks is lovely dog tooth detailing. Lovely turned columns which terminate in brass capitals flank the hood door. The door also has a very pretty little brass knob and is reeded to the sides. There are straight back slates.
If we then move down to the trunk this has a lovely full length shaped. Either side of the door has been nicely cross banded in mahogany. The door is also complete with it's lock and key which are fully working.
The base is cross banded in mahogany and is raised on ogee bracket feet.
The dial is exquisite and has the makers name of 'Thos Cooke, Oakham'. The four corners adorned with beautiful flowers and gilding whilst the arch contains a beautifully gilded fans with lovely painted flowers around it.The dial also has the most wonderful fretted fingers. There is one Thomas Cooke of Oakham listed in 'Watchmakers & Clockmakers of the World Volume 2 by Brian Loomes':
'COOKE Thomas. Oakham. 1828-49.'
CONDITION:
The clock is in lovely condition as can be seen from the photographs. The movement is 8 day duration and is in perfect working order. As can be seen from the photographs the movement is lovely and clean having recently been cleaned and serviced.

This is a lovely 8-Day oak and mahogany longcase clock which is in superb condition and is exceptionally detailed. The clock is in perfect working order having recently been professionally cleaned and serviced. This clock is absolutely perfect for anyone looking for a clock to place straight into their home.
If we start with the hood, this has swan necks. Pretty square reeded columns flank the hood door. To the rear are reeded back splats.
If we then move down to the trunk it has a lovely shaped door cross banded in mahogany. The door is also complete with it's lock and key which is fully working. The door is then flanked by square reeded columns. Also below the door is a pretty mahogany cross banded panel.
Finally the base has a lovely shaped applied panel which again has been cross banded in mahogany. The base is raised on lovely shaped bracket feet.
The dial with makers name of 'O. Roberts, Gaerwen', has the four corners adorned with wonderful gilded flowers which are surrounded in fabulous vivid blue and yellow. There is also two pretty windmills painted to the centre of the dial. The dial is set out with Roman Numerals. There is subsidiary second dial and date aperture. The dial also has the most wonderful fretted fingers.
The movement is eight day duration and is rack striking on a single bell. The movement is in perfect working order having recently been professionally cleaned and serviced. As can be seen from the photographs the movement is immaculately clean.
AGE / MAKERS DETAILS:
There is only one O. Roberts of Gaerwen listed in 'WALES Clocks & Clockmakers by William Linnard' :
'ROBERTS, Owen. Gaerwen. 19th Century. Silver watch, hall-mark 1877, inscribed 'Owen Roberts. GAERWEN', and another of 1796 (but movement much later) in the Museum of Welsh Life, St Fagans. Longcase clocks known, c 1835 - 65, some with square painted dials. Probably the same as the Llangefni man.

This is fabulous oak and mahogany cross banded longcase clock. It has an eight-day movement on a brass square dial. The clock is in perfect working order having recently been professionally cleaned and serviced. This clock is absolutely perfect for anyone looking for a clock to place straight into their home. the quantity of the movement to this clock is exceptional.
If we start with the hood this has a lovely flat top finished with moulded cornice and a small shaped pediment to the centre. The top is then adorned with four superb gilded finals. Lovely delicate reeded columns flank the hood door and there are nice reeded back splats. The hood door is nicely cross banded in mahogany.
If we then move down to the trunk this has beautifully shaped full-length door, which has been nicely cross banded in mahogany. The trunk door is then flanked by quarter reeded columns. The door also has its original brass escutcheon which is nicely shaped and fretted.
As with the trunk door the base incorporates some nice mahogany cross banding and has a lovely mahogany cross banded applied panel. The base is raised on ogee bracket feet.
The eight-day movement with makers name of 'Thos. Richardson', striking the hour has a square brass face. It also has a subsidiary second dial and date aperture. The four corners are adorned with beautiful spandrels whilst the centre incorporates beautiful engraved swags. Our clock restorer made the point that the movement to this clock is of a very high standard only usually seen in early London clock movements. We have taken some additional photographs to show detailing to the bell stand, back cock and top of the pendulum.
The style of the clock case is such that we believe this to be a Thomas Richardson of Weaverham. who is listed in ‘Clockmakers of Cheshire by Keith Appleby':
'RICHARDSON Thomas WEAVERHAM Clockmaker. 1795’.
