This is a superb early 19th century American Federal bold tiger maple finely dovetailed washstand with a graceful back splash and scrolled scalloped skirt gallery above a pierced basin top on square tapering tall Hepplewhite legs joined by a valanced apron, medial shelf and finely dovetailed drawer below with period brass Sheraton hardware. Bold curly maple Queen Anne slant top desk, four graduated drawers supported on four finely modeled cabriole legs with platformed pad feet, cyma-shaped knee brackets and lobed center pendant, pleasing stepped up interior with pilastered document drawers, two-board back, mellow amber patina. Choice untouched condition, completely original except for brasses. Height 42 1/2, width 38, depth 19 1/2. Origin: North Shore, Massachusetts. This is a superb rare pair of 18th century American Queen Anne highly-figured bold tiger maple New England rush side chairs. The tall elegant bold tiger maple backs are complimented with tasteful blocked and turned front legs, simple bulbous turned front and side stretchers ending in solid one piece superbly carved Spanish feet. Each chair is joined with mortise and tenon construction throughout. The refined Spanish feet are carved from the solid, NOT pieced out. This attention to labor and detail was an active procedureof craftsmanship associated with the Gaines schoolin Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Although worn in areas, each chair appears to retain a substantial amount of its original surface. Mellow nut brown amber patina. Attributed origin: Eastern Massachusetts or coastal New Hampshire Circa: 1740-1760. Height: 41'' Each chair has survived in a superb state of preservation. Overall excellent condition, without any damage to the Spanish carved feet.   « Less
