19th century brooch or pin, large twin medallion lava cameo, with one white head and one black one. Gold mount. Very good high relief detail to the two cameos. Lava cameos were popular 18th and 19th century souvenirs of trips to Italy - the lava came from Mt. Vesuvius or sometimes Mt. Etna. Brooch measures 56 mm wide by 33 mm high. The cameos are each 27 mm wide by 33 mm high. The clasp has been repaired at some time - the pin is a typical very long one (not gold), but the hook and the hinge area show repair. The face of the brooch is in very good condition, no damage to the cameos although there is a little grey patch in the carving above the helmet peak of the black cameo (to the far right side). Very attractive, unusual antique brooch.   « Less

Large oval genuine shell cameo brooch or pin, with classical scene of horse drawn chariot with winged maiden, cherub and handmaidens on clouds. Silver frame with mille grain and rope twist detailing. Safety style catch with engageable nib to stop pin coming out of hook. Brooch measures 4 cm by 5.3 cm (about 1.1/2 inches by 2 inches). Excellent condition. Very fine pair of conical 19th century Victorian earrings. Carved in jet (possibly Whitby jet) with an intricate pattern of feathering, diamond hatching and rosettes at the end. Gold wires and mounts. Earrings measure 7.5 cm long from the ear. The base is 1.25 cm diameter tapering to 5 mm diameter where it meets the mount. Excellent condition. Rare to find such a fine pair of earrings with the jet undamaged.   « Less

Very retro style to this ring - New Zealand jade (called greenstone locally), large square stone with a flick of 4 tiny diamonds in gold across one corner. Double shank styled shoulders. 9ct yellow gold. Has 9ct stamped inside the band, and also Solar - presumably the maker. Stone measures 16 mm by 12 mm (5/8 inch by 1/2 inch). The diamonds are little brilliants, probably about 1 mm diameter each. One of the diamonds has a damaged crown, but this is only visible under the magnification of a jeweler's loupe. Victorian brooch or pin by an early New Zealand colonial maker. Sterling silver mount is ornately engraved with scrolls etc, and has a scalloped edge to the setting of an oval piece of banded agate. The rear is stamped Stg. Silver. and has a "G.L." stamp in two places. Possibly by George Lumsden (ex Scotland and Australia) who worked in Invercargill. Scottish style of brooch, measuring 3.2 cm by 3.8 cm. Excellent condition.   « Less

Lovely oval lava cameo earrings, 19th century. Probably converted from a brooch at some time. They have been suspended from gold posts for pierced ears. Earrings measure 2 cm by 1.7 cm. The cameos are very well carved - beautiful high relief classical female heads. The frames appear to be gold, but could be rolled gold. Excellent condition to face of earrings - the backs show the signs of having been converted, including a few dents in the gold and one little tear.   « Less

Unusual and beautiful bracelet - made in sterling silver, it has linked panels of leaf forms and flowers with turquoise bead heads. The central panel is an amazingly fine micro mosaic oval of a basket of flowers. Exquisite work, tiny glass tiles mounted in a frame of turquoise blue glass. Minor chip on the blue edge of the mosaic. Safety chain fitted. The barrel clasp is probably not original, but may have been added quite some time back when a few links were put in to extend the length. Maker's stamp on rear is for Z.W. & Co. Stamped Sterling Silver, Made in England. Probably dates from early 20th century. ("Made in England" marks were used from about the 1920s, with just "England" before that since 1891). Length of bracelet is 17.75 cm (7 inches). The central panel of mosaic measures 1.8 cm by 2.1 cm not including the silver frame, which brings it up to 3 cm. Very good condition.   « Less
