Exceptional Taisho Period c.1925 bronze flower vase with a koi (carp) swimming up a waterfall symbolizing courage and determination. On the opposite side are the Japanese characters, 'Ken & To' in raised relief, meaning to persist and challenge. The vase is signed by Minobe and was most likely commissioned as a gift for someone facing a challenging journey or task. The upper kanji 'Ken' has a tiny light scratch in the upper left stroke as well as the area above it, but imperceptable to the camera and basically the eye. Ask for shipping quote.
