Purchased directly from the artist at the time the sculpture was first displayed in Lincoln Center in the 1960s. Signed on the Bottom of the mount. Kobashi's works are in the permanent collections of many major museums, including the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Metropolitan Museum, the New York Public Library, the Weisman Art Museum, and the Neuberger Museum of Art. Late 19th Century Japanese Kazari-Uma (Battle Horse). This deluxe extraordinary example is attributed to Marurei, one of the most important Ningyô artists. He now has Japanese National Treasure status. This handsomely adorned military horse is displayed on a Boys Day stand. The body hair is done by a technique called Ke-Ue-Saiku "fine work of fur planting" in which silk hairs are pasted on. It has ivory teeth, and has gorgeous silk and lacquer trappings.
