Fine, American Aesthetic Movement desk. This is a wonderful example of "Japanesque" design, which was in vogue among the most fashion conscious of the late 19th century. Small and elegant, with a "growing" bamboo design on the three lower drawers and a stylized depiction of moon and mountains on the backsplash. There are also three small drawers above the desk surface which retain their original purple velvet linings. Framing the top decorative panel are open- work geometric designs in an Asian motif, which also bracket the drawers above the curved out legs. The desk slides out to make sitting easy and features an easily replaced soft-gold leather surface. All original ebonized cherry finish and period brass hardware. Two of the original locks and keys are still functioning. Beautiful patina, some old re-gluing. Measures 48” in height, 29 3/4” in width, and 20 1/4” in depth. Rare English burl wood veneered flat top Chippendale desk c1780. All original hardware and structure with later professional hand rubbed finish. The two drawer faces drop down and the drawers slide out slide out flat, similar to the drawers in a linen press. Each measures 26.5 by 19 inches. The center bottom has double doors that open for added storage. The entire top, sides and front are all covered in the finest book matched burr elm veneers framed in banded inlay. The back is finished in raised panels, allowing the desk to be placed in the center of a room. Lovely bracket base. This fine period desk measures 60 inches wide by 24.5 inches deep by 29.5 inches high. Rare, English Campaign Desk. Amazingly intact, Edwardian Era folding Campaign table. Elegant design and proportions, and still complete and functional. This fine desk retains all its original hardware that allows it to be closed tightly in a folded position and by pressing an original brass button opened and then locked in place as a desk with another original brass catch on it's under-side. The interior is the original grained leather, with various pockets and original ink-well, including the interior glass and cover. The only repair (pictured) is a re-gluing of a crack to the top of the leg where it attaches to the desk top. Solid Mahogany, all original finish, fine "as found" condition.   « Less

Unusual shape, featuring a double door bookcase topped by a spindle gallery over an elegantly gilt-incised cylinder desk with pull out writing surface and Birds' Eye maple interior. Two good size shelves, flank the cylinder, above a single drawer and double door cabinet all gilt incised in the same Japanesque Taste. All original hardware and finish, with gilt incising. Exceptionally high quality Jacobean Revival walnut desk. Every detail of this fine piece of furniture is top notch, from the use of furniture grade walnut on every inch including the interior of the drawers and back to the way every drawer fits to perfection. There are two large "secret compartments" big enough for legal papers and the top frieze drawer fits so well it could also be considered hidden. The desk is large and sturdy, with brass supports. The interior has four small drawers with original hardware and shaped compartments. There is one large drawer with original hardware, beneath the desk and the large frieze drawer on top. The secret compartments are accessed from the back. Very good condition with some old restorations to the two top corners and missing a lock for the desk flap which does not affect it's use. Beautiful soft warm original finish in excellent condition. 51 1/2" tall x 39” wide x 20 1/2” deep.   « Less
