Height 62", width 59", depth 21".
The carving of the front panels and the vertical stiles were common design elements of Flemish furniture in the late 1500's and early 1600's. Examples of this style can be seen in the book, "Mobilier de Belgique et de la Flancre Francaise", by Edith Mannoni, pages 17, 19, 26, and 29.
Condition: In good condition and mostly original. The back consists of boards from another piece of early furniture. The three shelves are original except of the back section of one. The lock is an early replacement, and functions. the escutcheon, hinges, and probably the two door latches are original. Some worming to the top, which is original. This piece has an attractive old light-brown patina.

Height 45â€, width 31â€, depth 19â€.
On either side of the door are figures carved in full relief, one carrying an anchor and the other a cross, each probably representing one of the three virtues, favorite subjects of the Flemish during the 17th century. The deep center carving contains two birds (possibly flamingos) positioned back-to-back, with a small cartouche above carved with the date, 1633. There is a drawer above the door flanked by two cherubs in full relief.
Comparative examples: Some other Flemish one door cupboards are pictured on page 116 and 117 in the book, “Belgian Furniture 1500-1800â€, by Thibaut Wolvesperges. More are pictured on pages 31, 33, and 38 in the book, Mobilier de Belgique et de la Flandre Francaiseâ€, by Edith Mannoni. It is interesting to note that, like the cupboard being offered, some of these comparative examples have a combination of very deep carving and relatively shallower carving, a characteristic in this case that indicates Brugge as the city of origin. In the other examples, the deep carving is always on the posts and center of the door, and the more shallow carving is usually on the surrounding parts of the door and on the plinth.
Condition: The backboards and both shelves appear somewhat old, but are not original. Also, the drawer has been rebuilt apparently many decades ago, using new interior parts but retaining the original carved oak facing.

Height 5'11" (180cm), width 61", depth 31" (measured by the protruding top molding).
Condition: In good condition overall. Minor losses to carving and minor repairs consistent with its age, and a few of the backboard panels appear to be old replacements. There is a small hole in the back that I left as-is since it would be handy to feed chords through for electronic equipment. Has an old dark finish that may be original. No key. « Less

Height 82", width 63", depth 24".
Cupboards of this design, with small doors above an open area in the upper section, were made in great quantities in the 19th century, but 17th-century examples such as this one are quite scarce. This example includes six carved scenes of the life of Christ in full relief. Lower section opens to two small drawers side-by-side along the top and a shelf in the middle. Both top and lower doors have the original large inset iron locks. Provenance: "Oude Walle" castle, Lovendegem Belgium.
Condition: Basically all original and is good, sturdy condition, but with a few losses to the carved scenes on the doors. Locks are in good functioning order with large early key.

Height 42", Width 35", Depth 23".
This cupboard has an attractive geometric pattern painstakingly made up from small pieces of molding, a pattern that was widely popular in Flanders in the mid-17th century. The barley-twist columns with their well-carved Corinthian capitals point this piece as being from the early Baroque period. The small holes in the doors were there for ventilation, a feature not uncommon in 17th-century pieces. Many of these one-door cupboards originally had a linen press built onto the top, but with advances in technology, the linen press parts became useless and were removed long to leave a more practical flat surface. Such is the case with this piece as evidenced by the two small wood plugs on the top.
Condition: The backboards are later but old, and the brass drawer pull is a replacement. The back left leg has been repaired.

Height 83", width 68", depth 28" (at cornice).
This style of cupboard, with four square doors and two drawers seem enjoy a special popularity in the first decades of the 18th century. The decoration on the doors could be any number of things, but this one borrows designs from the renaissance pieces of some 150 years earlier. This sturdy piece is made of thick oak. Even though it is heavy, it is easy to handle since the top lifts off, the doors slide up and off the hinges, and the whole upper and lower sections are separate.
Condition: Good condition overall and basically all original. Various repairs such as some filled holes on the doors, a fairly large filled hole on the back (as seen in the photos), and replaced back feet. For convenience, two inconspicuous magnetic catches were lightly attached to keep the doors closed without having to use the locks, but they can be removed if desired. Includes the two original iron door locks, although they were not attached at the time the photos were taken.
