Very Good possibility even though that this painting is not signed, I feel it might be a school of Gruppe painting. Locale appears to be of New Hope,Pennsylvania. In addition to New England North Shore and Cape Cod, Gruppe was very well known for his winter snow landscapes in Pennsylvania, especially in the New Hope area.   « Less

This information is written on the back of the canvas along with the artist's name and her address of 4210 Corey Road-Toledo, Ohio. The painting is also signed in the lower right of this nice subdue painting. The canvas measures 24" X 30" and the dimensions of the frame is 32" X 39". The artist is listed in WHO WAS WHO IN AMERICAN ART. She was born in Verviers,Belgium. Her given name was Leopoldine Voisin, but when she came to America during World War II, she shortened the name to Line. She has a pretty good listing.   « Less

The Hudson River Port-Folio contains twenty aquatints views of the Hudson River Valley engraved by John Hill after paintings by William G. Wall. Published by Henry I. Megarey, New York. The Hudson River runs 315 miles from the Adirondack Mountains to New York City. The views start near Lake Luzerne and end with a view of New York City from Governor's Island. The original proposal was for twenty-four prints; however, only twenty were ever published between 1821 to 1825. This particular one is #10 which is the scene of Fort Edward. Fort Edward is situated on the east bank of the Hudson, two miles south of Sandy Hill, and about eleven miles north of Fort Miller Bridge. After much investigation--This and the other Hudson River Valley Print #20 Governor's Island that we have on our web site are not Originals BUT restrikes from about 40 years ago. William Abbott Cheever. 20TH Century Painter Scene is painted on 20" X 40" Panel and the frame measurements are 48" X 28 1/2". Painter's addresses are in Maine and Massachusetts. Exhibited PAFA, 1948-1960. Sources: Falk. PAFA,VOLUME 3. Wonderful Painting in Excellent Condition. No Restoration. The images will tell the story. A lot of painting for the money. Cheever was born in 1907 and died in 1986. He was living in Amherst,New Hampshire when he died. We recently came across this information and more info to follow from a acquaintance of his. Cheever was doing covers for the National Sportsman Magazine when he was a teenager. Those works of art are as good as Phillip Goodwins that are presently selling for six-figures. He also studied with Philip Hale, traveled to the Hebrides on a Museum School scholarship and taught later at the Boston Museum School and at Phillips Academy in Andover. His accomplishments are long and varied. He even mentioned to his friend that he did a mural for a MacDonald's Restaurant at one point in his life. Also a lady from Virginia whom is researching Cheever and is seeking information on Cheever, tells me that he painted the New Deal muural in a post office in Smithfield, Va. He also did two others in New England. We will contact Sonny, a customer of mine in Chinese and Japanese Export Porcelain, who lives in Smithfield and retired from Smithfield Packing. Their is nothing like a "SMITHFIELD HAM".   « Less
