Superb 18th C American Chippendale Massachusetts double shell carved reverse serpentine maple slant lid desk. The solid sloped lid opening to a well balanced double stepped interior, fitted with a stack of two prospect drawers, with a wonderful shell carved center drawer with shell and scoop carving flanked by document drawers faced with baluster turnings further flanked by valanced cubbyholes and individual finely dovetailed drawers, the case fitted with four long graduated serpentine drawers, on a molded base with a center shell carved pendent on four finely sculpted claw and ball feet with ogee bracket base. Height: 44'' Width: 42 inches, Depth: 21 1/2'' at case All carved elements and interior dovetailed drawers are original to the desk. Circa: 1760-1785 Original period hardware which was on the desk when purchased has been recently polished, but Is not the first set. This superb desk has survived in an outstanding state of original preservation with a wonderful mellow amber nut brown patina. Origin: North Shore Salem or Boston, Massachusetts community. The is a very fine 18th century American Massachusetts dense flame crotched mahogany reverse serpentine desk with exceptional bold serpentine bracket base feet. The brass bail handle hardware is original to the piece. The center arched prospect door conceals two additional dovetailed storage drawers. The interior is clean, balanced and straight forward. It could of been constructed possibly for an 18th Quaker family or simply a family that could not afford or want ornate carving and additional details. Choice selection of flame crotch dense mahogany. The desk is completely original. It has survived in a superb state of preservation. Period hardware Circa: 1780-1795 Mellow Nut Brown Patina   « Less

Superb Rare 19th C English Regency Mahogany Davenport Circa: 1825. The sliding leather writing slope surmounted by a shaped wooden gallery and concealing a locking pen drawer with bone pull and ebonised compartments. The compartment to the far right contains a secret drawer. Having a plain frieze on all sides, leading to an unusual shaped front paneled section, decorated with four plain roundels, flanked by lion heads, above volutes with acanthus to fascias terminating in s-scrolls. A writing slide above four graduated drawers all with brass pulls to right hand side, and similar blind slide and drawers to the reverse, and panelled section to back. Leading to a moulded edge, the whole supported on lion feet to front and turned feet to back. Height: 35'', Width: 22'', Depth: 23''   « Less
