Antique 18 carat gold broch set with semi-precious stones. Made by the famous firm of Castellani, 19th century. Measures just under 1 inch in length. Brooch influenced by the Neo Etruscan / Classic style based on techniques of the Ancient Romans, Greeks and Etruscans. An oval citrine, gently cut into facets atop a golden heart with an oak leaf in it''s center. A pair of globular gold balls join the top of the leaf to the upper scrolls of the heart. At the heart''s base is a red stone, we think a garnet. The work is done in typical granulated style with fine engraving on the leaf. The brooch / pin comes in it''s original, fitted box - red on the outside with golden C''s on both outside of lid and on the silk lining inside. The pin closes with a simple c-clasp. There is some darkening on the hinge side of the clasp, where the join was possibly redone, but the hinge works well. The pin is hallmarked on the back for 18K gold and has the intertwining C monogram of the Castellani Company. On the other side of the hinge is another monogram hallmark, which looks like JV or JY. COndition is good. Status: For Sale Reference#: 3821 Condition: good Year: 1880 Title: ANTIQUE CASTELLANI BROOCH IN ORIGINAL BOX NEO CLASSIC « Less

Antique old cut diamond and gold necklace. Made in Russia 19th century. Length of chain is 17 1/2 inches. Distance from top of bow to bottom of longest drop is a little over 2 inches. Weighs 22grams. A sturdy chain with rectangular links suspends a sweep of diamonds in the form of a central flower with long, curly leaves on either side of it. A series of 5 drops dangle from the flower and foliage, graded in length with the longest in the middle. Each of these consists of a long gold arm with circles containing small diamonds, like little bubbles, that lead the eye to a very large diamond on the end of the drop. The smaller diamonds are set in a simple round collette, the larger in a flower like openwork setting. The drops are joined to the upper section by loops which allows them to move. The necklace is quite stunning when worn. The necklace has a sturdy loop clasp. THe clasp has a number of hallmarks on the loops, (see ''photos). Very good condition. Antique Victorian Neo Etruscan Memento Mori memorial / mourning 14K gold, black enamel and cabochon amethyst brooch. Made circa 1860-1880. Bullseye shape - almost 1 /1/2 More »
Antique Victorian Neo Etruscan Memento Mori memorial / mourning 14K gold, black enamel and cabochon amethyst brooch. Made circa 1860-1880. Bullseye shape - almost 1 /1/2 inches in diameter. Weighs 17 grams. Round, with borders of twisted gold wire in different thicknesses, very typical of the Neo Etruscan filigree jewellery of the time. The sloping surface, like the side of a cone is decorated with a black enamel pattern, leading to more filigree/wire work, which borders a fabulous cabochon amethyst - 1/2 inch in diameter. The pin at the back has a simple C-clasp. The original curved glass/crystal covers a compartment that might be used for a locket of hair of the departed / loved one. Part of a name, written in black is visible. There are no hallmarks, but the gold tests for at least 14 carats. General condition is very good, but a very close inspection with a magnifying glass shows tiny flaws in the surface of the gold (I can''t see them even with my glasses). Antique Georgian micromosaic brooch with very rare depiction of a woman as a miniature portrait, set in 22 carat gold in the Etruscan Revival style. Circa 1830-40. Measures More »
Antique Georgian micromosaic brooch with very rare depiction of a woman as a miniature portrait, set in 22 carat gold in the Etruscan Revival style. Circa 1830-40. Measures 2 inches long. Outstanding, museum quality micro mosaic, so subtly done that it appears as an oil painting, smoothe to the touch. Tiny tesserae, finely connected to form the image of a woman, dressed in semi Classic Roman robes, typical of the Neo Classical taste of the period. The woman is clearly a historic figure - reminiscent of the great Byzantine mozaic of the Empress Theodora, Justinian''s wife. She wears a white turban set with gold and jewels, a white robe with Royal blue shawl and scarlet sash. She also wears fingerless gloves. Her jewellery includes dangle earrings, a brooch set in the turban and her eyes are underlined with black make-up. The gold mount frame tests for at least 18 carat and probably 22k. Fine granulation and filigree decoration in rings around the oval that slopes inwards, drawing attention to the central figure. The mount is in the Etruscan Revival style with a similar mount shown for a micromosaic Spaniel done by Castellani (plate 56 of Castellani and Giuliano by Geoffrey C Munn). Very good condition. No chips/cracks/losses/restoration found. See THeodora page 49 of book on Costume and Fashion by James Laver. Antique Georgian double ring made of 15K gold. Made in England, 18th century. US size 5 1/2. The ring consists of a double band of parallel lines, with identically set stones, set apart by a fraction of an inch so that they are staggered. The lines consist of the following stones respectively: a sapphires, two small diamonds, a ruby, two small diamonds, a sapphire. This makes for a highly attractive and interesting ring. Petite and finely worked, especially considering the limited technology available at the time. The coloured stones are set in raised gold collets with unusual scrolls around the borders. The area enclosing the diamonds is silver. There are no hallmarks, but the ring tests for at least 15 carats. Good original condition. Antique Victorian signed 9ct gold brooch / pin with a horse and jockey in a horse race. Made circa 1860-1890''s, in England. Measures a tad over 1 1/4 inches long. More »
Antique Victorian signed 9ct gold brooch / pin with a horse and jockey in a horse race. Made circa 1860-1890''s, in England. Measures a tad over 1 1/4 inches long. WOnderfully modelled figural group of a horse at full gallop with a jockey bent over his back. Mane and tail fly backwards. Note detail to horse from the hooves to the eyes, bridle and reigns. The jockey is even more exciting with his boots and cap, perched on the saddle. Great detail and very finely created by a true master goldsmith. The back has it''s original hinged C-clasp. A number of hallmarks appear on the back: Regsitered mark, which indicates that it was probably made in Britain. An incised number:15839. 9Ct and the maker, A&W. Condition is very good. Magnifying glass reveals that there is a minute hole in the sleeve of the jockey''s arm which might be original to the piece (there are also two definately intentional holes at the back - see ''photos), but I could not see this with my ''naked eyes'' and mention it only for the sake of accuracy. Antique Victorian 14 carat gold and pearl jewelry parure, consisting of a pair of earrings and pendant-brooch. Made 19th century - circa 1880-1890. Total length of More »
Antique Victorian 14 carat gold and pearl jewelry parure, consisting of a pair of earrings and pendant-brooch. Made 19th century - circa 1880-1890. Total length of pendant-brooch is about 1 1/2 inches and width is approx 1 1/8 inches. Total weight is 13 grams. Each piece with a finely detailed flower on top of an open amphora or urn-shape with swags of foliage on either side and a cross-over bow at the bottom apex. A pearl is suspended in the open space of the urn / amphora and another at the bottom. Gold chains are suspended from the handles of the amphorae and connect to the bottom pearls, forming an outer loop. The entire surface area of the gold is engraved and moulded with very fine detail and with an applied orb in the center of each flower. Additional attraction results from the swing of pearls and gold chains as the wearer moves. Very fine workmanship and quality. The larger piece can be worn as either a brooch or pendant. The earrings have very comfortable loops with a catch at the back for additional security. Each piece is hallmarked 14K. Larger pearls may be a replacement - the Victorians tended to use seed pearls.
