A poster, measuring approx. 53 x 38 inches, of a wonderful sailing ship, seemingly under full sail, perhaps accompanied by a pontooned airplane escort on a seemingly calm sea. Given our fairly limited understanding of Italian, we fail to understand what the ship has to do with the product being advertised - a table cream - but who are we to question the artistic integrity of the turn of the century Italians. Printed by the famed Baroni printing house in 1918, the poster is in very good condition and mounted on linen. Purchased in Milan. Produced for an Italian coffee manufacturer called Foschi, this poster is a wonderful and colorful tribute to the power of advertising. Foschi is a company originally based in Casena, in the Romagna province of Italy. In 1929 the company moved to Pesaro where it has - ever since - operated as a family business. We will assume that the Foschi''s imported coffee from far and wide and that this poster was used to advertise that fact. Measuring 37 x 55 inches, it features a smiling child with a basket not of beans but of a coffee cup full of the family''s best brew ... Art Deco was a popular international art design movement from 1925 until the 1940s, affecting the decorative arts such as architecture, interior design and industrial design, as well as the visual arts such as fashion, painting, the graphic arts and film. At the time, this style was seen as elegant, glamorous, functional and modern. The movement was a mixture of many different styles and movements of the early 20th century, including Neoclassical, Constructivism, Cubism,Modernism, Art Nouveau, and Futurism.
