Features three drawers at the very top and two drawers on the left side , one on the center and a fake two drawer that is one deep drawer on the left, with lock secret compartment and top. On each side a pull tray. Open the cylinder front and you have another three drawers and a leather top desk that pulls out as you can see on the pictures. A superb and finely crafted piece. The desk you were just looking for, don't miss it!!! CONDITION: The piece is in great shape for age, some minor veneer detail at the top but nothing really bad. It does not have key for the locks. The piece has a fantastic bombé (swelling) shape on the sides, with a slanted top that drops open resting on two side bars that pull off the sides of the piece. The interior of the top part features a writing desk with small drawers on the sides and with shelving. The lower part of the piece has 3 drawers with fine bronze pulls and lots of storage space. Unique Italian Baroque Metal Mounted Walnut Cassone Bench, with having elements of the 17th Century. The rectangular back mounted with silvered metal fretwork above a hinged seat,opening to a storage compartment raised on columnar legs joined by the stretchers and then terminating in compressed bun feet. H:38" W:40" D:13". Though it was in Italian architecture, painting, and sculpture that the Baroque style was evolved, Italy was not the first to apply this style to furniture. But by the mid-17th century Italy was producing flamboyantly carved, painted, and gilded furniture, decorated with such typical motifs as cupids, acanthus, shells, and boldly drawn scrolls, and was further enriching chairs and stools with fine-cut velvets and table tops with marble or pietra dura (a mosaic-like technique in which coloured stones are cut and shaped and inlaid in a design). Chairs and stools with exaggerated scrolled arms and legs, and handsome walnut and ebony cabinets and cupboards with carved decoration on the pediments, friezes, this is a fine example of baroque bench. circa: 1890 width: 42 height: 28.75 length: 20.75 This gorgeous antique oak writing desk was handmade in Victorian England around 1890. The oak retains a rich complexion and a striking grain, in part due to the slow settling of a lovely patina, but also because of the beautiful quartersawn or tiger oak grain. The gold-tooled green leather (which was replaced around 1960) and brass pulls also contrast beautifully with the oak, while the turned bobbin legs remain as elegant as they are sturdy. Each drawer features hand-cut dovetails and continues to operate smoothly, which is rare for a Victorian desk, even for one of this quality. The casters do not roll as easily as they once did, which is normal for a desk of this age. One of the corners has also sustained a small separation in the wood, which is a natural occurrence in antique furniture, since as the wood ages, it breathes and creates small separations like the one in this desk. Otherwise, beyond the normal assortment of wear marks, this Victorian oak desk remains quite sturdy and in very good condition.   « Less

circa: 1890 width: 50 height: 55 length: 29 This exquisite walnut desk was handmade in France around 1890 and recently imported to our Atlanta furniture store. Today, the walnut displays a deep, lustrous complexion and a striking grain, both of which have grown even more beautiful over the years with the development of a lovely patina. The gold-tooled green leather makes a lovely contrast with the wood, as do the solid brass hardware and stained glass doors. The lower cabinet doors are also adorned with detailed carvings, while turned columns flank all four cabinets. Each drawer of course features hand-cut dovetails, and all but the two glass-door cabinets still lock with an accompanying key. Uniquely, the desktop slides out by several inches, allowing the user to shrink or expand workspace quickly and conveniently. This desk has also sustained the normal assortment of surface wear, including various scratches and stress marks. Also, it should be noted that there is a small space between the hood and the desktop that will show through to the wall--this is part of the desk design but may escape notice in some of the pictures. Structural integrity remains impressively firm, so overall this desk remains in excellent condition for its age.   « Less
