An open fretwork design of the floral and leaf motif on the top of the urn with the handles while the body of the lamp is with Cherubs in a naturalistic setting of a landscape in a most romantic setting with colorful tones and accented with Gilt detail. Total height incuding the shade:26" Porcelain Urn Height:15" Width of Urn: 8" Heigth of shade:11 1/4" Diameter of shade:17 3/4" Capodimonte: The relief style, highly colored and defined porcelain pieces are commonly called and identified in our current market place as Capo-di-Monte. It was King Ferdinand IV, son of King Charles who opened a factory in Naples in 1771 and began to use the mark of the blue crown N (BCN). When the factory closed in 1834, the Ginori family at Doccia near Florence, Italy, acquired what was left of the factory and continued using its mark. The factory continued until 1896 when it was then combined with Societa Ceramica Richard of Milan which continues today to manufacture fine porcelain pieces marked with a crest and wreaths under a blue crown with R Capodimonte. As more collectors recognize and appreciate the quality of the older ware, buyer demand drives prices higher for these fine antiques. This particular form is quite distinctive and with the open fretwork design it adds elegance with the touch of gilt on this porcelain lamp. Exceptional Pair of Light Ruby Murano Lamps with hand painted parchment shades that compliment the coloration of the distinctive glass lamps of Murano. Signed. H:36" (including the shade), Diameter of shade: 21". This pair of Glass lamps are from Murano which is an island, north of Venice, in Veneto region, northeastern Italy, with an area of 1,134 acres, in the Laguna Veneta (Venice Lagoon). It was founded between the 5th and the 7th century, and it experienced its major development after 1291, when glass furnaces were moved there from Venice. Murano became the manufacturing centre for Venetian glass, exported in large quantities to all of Europe. It reached its high point in the 16th century, when it had more than 30,000 inhabitants; glassmaking continues but on a considerably reduced scale. A record of this aspect of Murano's history is found in the Museum of Glass Art in the Giustinian Palace. The most important building in Murano is the basilica of Saints Maria e Donato. In its present state it dates from the 13th century, having been rebuilt several times since its founding in the 7th century. Notable for the beautiful external architecture of the apse, it contains a spring-beam roof and most of the original floor. The mosaic in the apse showing the Virgin Mary against a gold background is 13th-century Byzantine. The church of San Pietro Martire, founded in the 14th century (rebuilt 1509), contains paintings by Giovanni Bellini, Paolo Veronese, and Tintoretto. This particular pair of a swirl and fluted base is elegant in color and style and perfect accessory for any decor. Exceptional Pair of Antique Italian Black and Red Marble Urn Lamps with classical figures with gilt to accent the pedestal base between the black and red marble. The hand More »
Exceptional Pair of Antique Italian Black and Red Marble Urn Lamps with classical figures with gilt to accent the pedestal base between the black and red marble. The hand painted parchment shade is with details of gilt to compliment the lamp and is newly rewired. H:25.5" Diameter of shade: 14" The word "marble" derives from the Greek marmaros, "shining stone" Marble is a metamorphic rock resulting from the metamorphism of limestone, composed mostly of calcite (a crystalline form of calcium carbonate). It is extensively used for sculpture, as a building material, and in many other applications. The characteristic swirls and veins of many colored marble varieties are usually due to various minerals such as clay, silt, sand, iron oxides, or chert which were originally present as grains or layers in the limestone. The Rouge Color is unusual and elegant in color and a contrast to the detailed Urn, combined for a distinctive look. Located in the heart of Summerland, California, Lifestyle Antiques & Interiors offers the finest high-end Antiques, Decorative Arts, and Home Furnishings on the South Coast. Antique Bronze Figure of Neptune after the 16th Century monumental fountain figure by Giovanni Bologna, Italian. This bronze was converted to a lamp, dark patina, marble More »
Antique Bronze Figure of Neptune after the 16th Century monumental fountain figure by Giovanni Bologna, Italian. This bronze was converted to a lamp, dark patina, marble base, and a hand painted parchment shade. H:32" Diameter of shade:18" Antique Bronze lamp of Neptune patterned after Giovanni Bologna who historically was a Flemish Renaissance sculptor, in Flanders, about 1524, and also worked in Florence. He was comsidered an eminent sculptor. Giovanni was one of the competitors with Cellini for the colossal figure of Neptune in his chariot drawn by sea horses. The duke, who was to decide the competition, although assured that Giovanni's model was superior to the others, did not confide the undertaking to him. We can judge of what he would have made of that commission from the bronze Neptune prepared for the fountain at Bologna. His wrok was powerful and detailed and this particular lamp protrays the same strength. The sculpture is made of Bronze which refers to a broad range of copper alloys, usually with tin as the main additive, but sometimes with other elements. With the exception of steel, bronze is superior to iron in nearly every application. Although bronze develops a patina, it does not oxidize beyond the surface. It is considerably less brittle than iron and has a lower casting temperature. Located in the heart of Summerland, California, Lifestyle Antiques & Interiors offers the finest high-end Antiques, Decorative Arts, and Home Furnishings on the South Coast. We feature a rich collection from Europe, specializing in Italian Furniture, French and Spanish.
