Description: You are viewing an incredible dining table hand crafted from walnut and with intricate marquetry inlay work made famous on the stretch of the Amalfi coast in Italy this was bought from. The table comes with the set of matching 8 chairs as shown in the picture. We can safetly say this is the ultimate dining set and would last you for many generations, hence becoming a great heirloom. I honestly hope the photos do this set some justice, it's certainly better in the flesh. When fully extended by the leaf system this seats 8 people more than comfortably and 10 easily. The table extends easily by the wind up mechanism where you insert the big handle in one hand (please see close up picture) and everything is of course provided. Perhaps the main feature of the table is the fantastic marquetry inlay work on all surfaces. The patterns and designs include flowers, vines, scrolls and leaves. If you consider the process to acheive this you can appreciate the skill, levels of craftmanship and time it would have taken. Each shape from the designs is cut from the softer fruitwoods (rose, apple etc) and then embedded into the main body of the walnut. You can see the walnut also is gorgeous and it has all just been repolished so the grain has come out. There are even marquetry inlay details on the sides of the table and to the octagonal legs. The legs are on wheels so this is easy to move around. This is a fine table, offered in perfect condition and ready for home use right away. Then of course we have the set of 8 matching chairs - including two arm chairs and six side chairs. The chairs are solid and sturdy and very comfortable to sit on with the cushioned red fabric seats. These have just been reupolstered so are free from any previous owners smells including pets and smoke, always a bonus. Look at the wealth of marquetry inlay work on the chairs - even on the legs and front. Breathaking. Plus the hand carved details like the shell motifs to the backsplat and legs and the cabriole bend. The chairs are solid and stable with no wobbles and very comfortable to sit in. Good luck. We appreciate it's quite an initial outlay but this will last for centuries hence making it a great investment and family heirloom. It was hand made here in England to centuries old traditions and the quality is out of this world. The table is a Victorian extending diner that works by a winding mechanism at one end (please see close up photo). The table has four leaves each measuring 18 inches so there are numerous different combinations with this table. A leaf is an extra section of the table you can drop in. There are two D ends at either end of the table each measuring 4 feet. You could have just the two D ends together and the table would be round. Fully extended it is 14 feet long - and this would sit 12 people more than comfortably, perfect for large scale dinner parties and functions. The hand turned bulbous chunky balloon shaped legs are on castors so this table is easy to move around. There is even a leg under the middle of the table which makes it easy when you use the winding mechanism. The finish to the table is gorgeous, deep luxurious mahogany. The table is solid and sturdy, wobble free and comfortable to sit at. Then of course we have the set of English Queen Anne style dining chairs in mahogany. I hope the photos do this sumptuous set some justice, these are the Queen of dining chairs - fit for a King! The Queen Ann dining chair is a design classic favourite through the centuries for the mix of comfort (with the high backs) and elegance. They're a solid chunky chair and very comfortable to sit into. This set consists of 8 side chairs and 2 arm chairs. The high backs are hand carved and feature the scroll design to the top and the curved backsplat. The legs are gently cabriole and feature a shell motif to the top. These are incredibly solid and sturdy with tight joints so wobble free. The seats have just been reupholstered so are free from any previous owner smells such as pets and smoke, always a bonus. The chairs are 8 Chinese Chippendale Gothic dining chairs. They have a lovely Gothic look with the hand carved backspat - there are further carved details on the legs and arm rests. You can only imagine the time to craft these and they are in the Chippendale manner, solid and chunky with no wobbles. These wouldn't look out of place at the Royal Pavilion in Brighton, which contains perhaps some of the best Chinese Chippendale pieces courtesy of the Prince Regent. The chairs are solid and sturdy and come as a set with two arm chairs and six side chairs. They come with white upholstered cushioned seats with a gothic print. That's the great thing, it's so flexible. It more than comfortably sits 8 people as you can see from the photos. The table has lovely curved legs, complemented by some hand carved details and the elegant apron. We bought the table from a dealer in Avranches, France and it's unusual to find such a lovely piece in such wondeful condition. The table is solid and sturdy, no wobbles, ready for home use right away. If you are looking for that authentic cosy farmhouse rustic look then look no further. Then of course we have the perennial classic, a set of 8 Windsor chairs made from the finest English yew. The set of 8 consists of two arm chairs and six side chairs. These are the traditional and much loved Windsor chair design featuring the crinoline stretcher, hand turned legs, back splat with hand carved Prince of Wales feathers and the saddle shaped seats. They are very comfortable and solid and these are perfect for that rustic cosy farmhouse look. These were made by craftsman at High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire where they have been made using the same materials and skills for centuries. They are a design classic and perhaps - in our humble opinion - one of the best style of chairs ever made. They are flexible in that they look equally at home around a dining table as they do in the kitchen. For as long as I can remember we've had a set in our kitchen and they are perfect for withstanding the rigours of daily family life. They are solid, sturdy, comfortable and look great. They are hand crafted from the finest English yew and considerable work goes into the crafting of these fine pieces. Each seperate piece to each chair is hand carved and turned then assembled. This particular set came back from the restorers so they have been repolished and are very sturdy and ready for home use right away. These chairs are built to last and I don't think I'm exaggerating by saying they will last forever and hence make a great heirloom to pass down from generation to generation. Anyway, enough gumph, lets move onto the table and chairs. Refectory tables were originally used by monks in their refectorys, hence the name. You can imagine them drinking trappist ales in their flagons! The table is solid as an ox - chunky, wobble free, resiliant to everything a family can throw at it. We had a similar table when I grew up - it's still there. The legs are hand turned and chunky. A top sits the large eating surface in true refectory style and this is 8 feet long - and you can see how it comfortably sits eight people. Then we have the set of 8 Gothic high back chairs. Two arms and six sides. Again solid and sturdy, wobble free and very comfortable to sit in - perhaps made even more comfortable with some patterned tie down cushions - a great project for after the purchase so you can match it in with your colour scheme. The chairs are oak and match the table perfectly. We bought this set from a dealer in Debenham Suffolk, it is offered in great shape.
