Eating together whether with family or friends has to be one of the most important things we can do. So why not do it in absolute style with this table? We appreciate it is quite a big initial financial outlay but this table will only increase in value, making it a great heirloom and hence investment - perfect for these uncertain economic times. The great thing about this table is how it can be made to all the different sizes hence making it great for dinner parties of different sizes and different functions. There are two leaves each measuring 22 inches. You can use the extra leaves as required so it's very flexible. Or you can just use the two D ends together if you only require it for a smaller function. The veneers to the walnut are superb - the grain of the wood is wonderful, complemented by the intricate banding inlay work showing interlaced leaves and arabesques, all very intricate. The set consists of eight chairs - two arms chairs and six side chairs. They fit lovely around the table and that's the great thing about this set up, you can use it in a kitchen or for a more formal dining set up. For those of you looking to create that snug, cosy rustic farmhouse look then this really is the piece de resistance. This is a lovely set of eight French Country oak ladderback chairs with rush seats. They came from the Normandy area of France. The chairs have ladderbacks with a shaped crest. The legs are gracefully curved with turned feet. They have stretchers from the front to the back. The color is a rich dark brown oak with a warm patina. They were recently polished and waxed in our workshops and are ready to go into your home. The rush seats are shaped and the backs are slightly slanted, making the chairs very comfortable. They are very solid and sound. Then of course we have the table which extends via the leaf system - so you can expand this for bigger dinner parties and make it smaller to suit your needs. That's the great thing, it's so flexible. We bought the table from a dealer in Avranches, France and it's unusual to find such a lovely set. Benches are great as they are very cosey yet comfortable to sit on as well as having a lovely Monk flavour to the asethetic, you could just imagine Friar Tuck sitting at the table supping on Trappist Ale. The table has been hand crafted from the finest oak and is solid and chunky with no wobbles. The legs are hand turned and very chunky linking the stretchers to the bottom. Then of corse we have the set of 8 English oak spindle back chairs consisting of two arm chairs and six side chairs. They are the ultimate dining chair and have the flexibility to also suit the kitchen. I have a similar set in my dining room at home of which I have included a picture to give you an idea of how they look. They are hand woven rush seats too so they are very comfortable to sit on. They are very comforable and sturdy and are perfect for the everyday rigours of family life, withstanding the knocks of small children whilst taking the weight of adults for Christmas and Thanksgiving dinners. This set have just come back from the restorers where they had a repolish and the seats were re- woven with rush. The grain of the oak has a lovely finnish to it and the repolish has really accenuated the beautiful grain and burl of the wood - they have really come up a treat and are ready for use in your home immediately. The stretchers are lovely hand turned. The chairs are named spindle backs for obvious reasons and each one of the spindles would be hand turned so you can see the amount of time and craftmanship that has gone into the making of each individual chair. These will last for a long time and can be passed down from generation to generation and thus are a sound investmant. The distinctive barley twist legs are what give this table its name, hand carved as they are and depicting barley twists. Its a very solid and chunky table and would look equally at home in the kitchen as in the dining room. The oak has a lovely veneer to it and this has just benefitted from a polish at the restorers so it is ready for home use right away. To the side and the top are the hand carved mini-alcove designs all around the edge which also gives the table a refectory style. There is a lot of craftmanship gone into this fine specimen. It is extrememly solid and sturdy and offered in perfect condition,and again, is ready for home use right away. This table will last a lifetime.
