circa: 1820 width: 43 height: 40 length: 20 This antique mahogany chest was originally hand-crafted in Georgian-period England, later converted into the chest-cabinet combination you see in this listing, and recently imported to our antique furniture store here in Atlanta, GA, USA. Like many English antiques, this converted Georgian chest testifies not only to the skill and ingenuity of English craftsmen, but also to a rich history of hundreds of years of antique furniture-making. Like many Georgian-period antiques, this chest of drawers was restored and refitted probably either by Late Victorian or Edwardian craftsmen, and very likely on special request, given the unique design of this converted chest. Once a traditional chest with a two-over-three drawer design, this antique chest of drawers now contains three drawers and two cabinets. Each drawer features hand-cut dovetails and pulls out smoothly, while the cabinet doors also operate with ease. In fact, the whole of this Georgian chest is in excellent structural condition, although it has sustained surface wear consistent with age (see pictures). Also, one of the sides of the chest has sustained an age split, which is a natural separation in the boards; age splits occur in all solid wood furniture and are purely cosmetic phenomena that do not affect structural integrity. Often, they are considered aesthetically pleasing and markers of great age. Indeed, this Georgian chest of drawers remains as beautiful as ever, with a gorgeous mahogany complexion and grain, particularly around the face of the chest where flame mahogany crossbanding was used to set off the cathedral mahogany. The effect, when combined with the solid brass hardware, is a remarkable, stately appearance that is sure to make a bold impression on any room. « Less

circa: 1885 width: 38 height: 39 length: 18 This beautiful antique painted pine chest was hand-crafted in Victorian England around 1885. The antique painted finish, solid brass hardware, shaped apron, shaped bracket feet and straight chest design all look quite lovely together and help to create a rustic appearance. Constructed in a two-over-three drawer layout, this English antique painted pine chest also offers plenty of storage, while each of the drawers features hand-cut dovetailed joints. Being constructed with sturdy solid pine, this English antique painted pine chest remains as sturdy as ever, although it has sustained some surface wear, mainly in the form of stress marks in the paint. One of the sides of the chest has also developed an age split, which is a purely cosmetic phenomenon that occurs in all solid wood furniture. Indeed, this English antique painted pine chest will no doubt last for another hundred years, so it would make a fine addition to any home furniture collection! « Less

circa: 1890 width: 47 height: 46 length: 22 This beautiful antique mahogany bow front chest of drawer was hand-crafted in Victorian England around 1890. The mahogany displays a fine, rich grain and lustrous complexion, which the columnar twist carvings and round wooden knobs emphasize quite wonderfully. Because this antique bow front chest is over a century old, it has had time to develop a lovely patina, which enriches the distinct grain and complexion of the mahogany, which should only continue to grow more beautiful with time. The bow front design, which was a favoured shape of Victorian craftsmen, looks wonderful, as well. This chest was built with a classic two-over-three drawer design, which offers plenty of storage space; each drawer features hand-cut dovetailed joints. Sturdy turned feet provide strong support. This bow front chest has sustained some minor surface wear consistent with age, particularly on the sides and top, and the drawers are missing some moulding in places. The perfect combination of antique charm and modern functionality, this Victorian mahogany bow front chest of drawers would make a fantastic addition to any home! « Less

circa: 1920 width: 56 height: 81 length: 19 This gorgeous antique oak Welsh dresser was hand-crafted in Great Britain around 1920. Over the years, the oak has developed a lovely patina, which enhances the distinct oak grain and lustrous complexion, particularly in places where quartersawn oak was used. Solid-brass tear drop pulls contrast beautifully with the oak, while the shaped paneling and turned baluster legs look fantastic! With a hutch, two locking cabinets and two drawers (each of which feature hand-cut dovetails), this Welsh dresser also offers plenty of storage space. One of the drawers contains a felt-lined silverware tray that rests in the top of the drawer and which can be removed. circa: 1900 width: 45 height: 75 length: 22 This gorgeous mahogany tallboy chest of drawers was hand-crafted in Edwardian Period England around 1900 and recently restored, in England, by a team of master craftsmen. The mahogany displays a deep, rich grain and complexion that the satinwood crossbanding and solid brass hardware complement beautifully, while intricate moulding and shaped bracket feet help to create the classic, elegant appearance that makes this tallboy an impressive presence. With a total of seven large drawers, each featuring hand-cut dovetails, this tallboy chest of drawers also offers an incredible amount of storage space, and because it is both wide and very tall, it makes the best use of the space it occupies. Constructed and restored by two entirely separate generations of English craftsmen, this Georgian style mahogany tallboy offers not only a unique history, but also impressive utility, so it would make a fine addition to any home furniture collection! « Less

circa: 1890 width: 42 height: 41 length: 22 This beautiful antique cathedral mahogany bow front chest of drawers was hand-crafted in Victorian England around 1890 and recently hand restored in England by a third-generation cabinetmaker. The cathedral mahogany displays a fine, rich grain and lustrous complexion, which the rosewood banding around the top accents quite wonderfully. Solid brass hardware also forms a nice contrast with the wood. Because this chest is over a century old, it has had time to develop a lovely patina, which enriches the distinct cathedral mahogany and rosewood grain and complexion, which should only continue to grow more beautiful with time. A classic two-over-three drawer design offers plenty of storage space, with each drawer featuring hand-cut dovetailed joints. Sturdy turned feet provide strong support. This Victorian period chest has sustained some minor surface wear consistent with age, particularly on the top corners, and the drawers also operate with some difficulty. circa: 1830 width: 39 height: 40 length: 23 This beautiful antique mahogany bureau was hand-crafted from solid wood in Georgian England around 1830. Since then, the mahogany has developed a lovely patina that has come to enrich the wispy grain and lustrous complexion of the wood, which is complemented by wonderful solid-brass hardware. This bureau is also quite versatile, since the bureau not only houses a generous amount of storage space with its four-drawer design, but also provides an attractive work space that features a variety of drawers and compartments. Even the original key remains with the bureau, so the drawers and fall lock, although some of the lower drawer locks operate with slight difficulty. Each drawer features hand-cut dovetailed joints, which is a sturdy method of drawer construction and indicates fine craftsmanship. Also, the bureau is made of solid oak with mahogany veneers, which was considered a high-quality practice for hundreds of years before the twentieth century. Because of this excellent construction and design, this bureau has sustained very little noticeable wear over the past two hundred years, with only a few old stress marks and a broken interior knob. This antique Georgian mahogany bureau will continue to function excellently and grow more beautiful for generations to come, so it would make a fine addition to any home furniture collection!0A « Less
