Very interesting French or possibly Italian majolica pitcher that is quite early and interesting in its form. Nice squared off handle and surrounded on the body with cherubs children or cherubim. Very unlike later majolica and much more colorful than much of the 17th C pieces this pitcher is amazing not only in form but condition. Somehow spared any damage over the years this fine delicate piece is a perfect addition to any advanced majolica collection. Stands about 11'' tall and is circa 1750. This pot has a great glaze. I love the way the bright red streaks down over the shoulders onto the darker base. It stands about 4 inches tall and about 4 inches wide. It is unmarked, but the dark bottom leads me to believe it was made at Smithfield Pottery. There is some roughness around the rim, which is common for these low-fired pieces, but the rest of this piece is in great shape. It''s a well fired example.
