Moche culture, northern Peru, ca. 400 to 600 AD. Life-size molded pottery face mask with relief facial features, large almond-shaped eyes with arched eye brows, highlighted with white pigment. Small round perforations through both ears, which probably once held disc ear ornaments. Brim ridge across his forehead having numerous small perforations which once held ornaments, probably feathers. As is normal for a mask of this type, repaired from several pieces, but appears to be all original. 9-1/2"W x 7"H. Custom lucite stand.
