This is a lovely decorative tin portrait plate made in France in 1905. It is the portrait of a young Caterina de'' Medici of Florence who later became the wife of Henry 1V of France. She was a patroness of the arts and a leader in the Renaissance Movement. The tin is in good condition with some loss of paint on the gold borders and a slight loss on her left eyebrow. The colors are rich blue background with a scrolling wide gold border. In the portrait she is a young maiden with flowing locks and flowers in her hair. Her costume is ornate with a high ruffled collar and golden jewelry. The plate is 13'' in diameter. This plate is one of a series of the royalty of Europe done in the method of early lithography. Many of the others were originally painted by Asti. It is a beautiful decorative accessory, ready for display. This is one of those difficult to expain items. It is a decorative metal picture frame that has a print of two parrots in the oval center. Applied to the frame on either side of the image are small bunches of painted metal flowers that stand away from the frame. They are purple tulips and wheat sheaths. This is in charming shabby chic condition making it an unusual decorative object. There is paint peeling and several spots on the print where it is slightly torn. This is not for the person that likes perfection but rather for the person that apreciates the charm of a pretty found vintage object.
