10" high by 8" wide Modern California plein air painting 10" high by 8" wide unframed. Lovely early evening moonrise reflected on a cool stream. There are California eucalyptus trees, a pinkish sky and assorted floral embellishment. The painting is signed bottom left and framed in a simple 1/2" copper frame. James Dudley Slay III was born on October 2, 1953 in Jackson, Mississippi. Slay began his formal instruction at the New England School of Design. He briefly attended the Otis Art Institute in Pasadena, California. He followed this with personal tutoring from Russian impressionist Sergei Bongart. He also studied with Karl Dempwolf and Frank Serrano at the California Art Club. His specialty is painting in the plein air tradition and in his studio. His works can be found in private collections nationwide and in permanent display at the American Museum of Art in Petropavlovsk, Kamechatka Russia. He has exhibited in juried art shows across the state. Slay is listed in ART.com and the Artist''s Bluebook.   « Less

vaughan grayson became particularly adept in recording the landscape of the west in paintings, silkscreens, sketches, and words. her particular subject was the canadian rockies, though later in life she recorded the views near her house in the okanagan, and traveled extensively with her paintbox. in a finely curated show now on at banff’s whyte museum of the canadian rockies, every aspect of grayson’s life as an artist and traveler is represented.the work encompasses her early journeys into the rockies, where she painted large canvases of known scenic spots that rival the work of walter j. phillips in their cool, green beauty. originally from moose jaw, where her father’s prominent position afforded her the opportunity for an arts-heavy education in boston and new york, grayson would devote her life to painting, and to teaching others about painting. she taught in moose jaw schools and wrote extensively on the subject of art, directed at children and teenagers. though she successfully showed work at public galleries in the Okanagan and at the vancouver art gallery before she died in 1995, grayson never sold any of her work, her family has donated a sizeable collection of canvases to the moose jaw museum and art gallery. it’s a glimpse into the life and work of an artist whose work is not often seen, but who spent her life recording the beauty of the western canadian landscape. the dimensions framed 19 1/2"x19 1/2" signed and titled by the artist "prince kootenay lake" bc   « Less

A keen interest in nature led to his first job with the Forestry Commission. In 1960 he was encouraged to start painting, and has been a professional painter ever since. He paints Landscapes, seascapes and coastal scenes in oil. Over the past 30 years Chatten Has developed and mastered a technique of painting which is completely his own. The intimate quality of his work displays a freedom of personal expression and exploration and his paintings show a great ability to capture the feeling and atmosphere of his subject. Still living and working in Norfolk, he regularly exhibits in East Anglia, nationally and internationally. Chatten was elected to the Royal Society of British Artists in 1994.
