This fine piece of furniture counts with a fall front top drawer, where a small desk or writing area appears, with storage space and small drawers makes this piece both elegant and functional. The piece is made all of solid wood (blond mahogany) and flamed mahogany veneer. Elegant and original bronze hardware and key. Dove tailed drawers. circa: 2000 width: 36 height: 42 length: 20 This gorgeous antique mahogany campaign chest was crafted in England around 1960. Decommissioned decades ago, the chest was recently restored by a small traditional cabinetmaker who specializes in salvaging UK military chests. This particular chest was restored to beautiful effect, so the mahogany displays an incredibly rich complexion and a pronounced grain that are complemented beautifully by the brass hardware that really defines the appearance of this chest. All five drawers still slide in and out very smoothly and feature dovetailed joints, which is one of many indicators that this chest is an unusually high-quality item. As a campaign chest, this piece would have originally been constructed to disassemble into several sections so that the officer using it could travel more easily in the field. Today, the chest has been retrofitted to remain in one piece, but the places where the chest would have separated remain easy to spot, particularly on the sides. Although very sturdy, this chest has sustained a typical assortment of wear scuffs and wear marks, several of which can be seen in the pictures accompanying this description. However, the superficial wear on this antique chest is very minor, and only adds to the already charming character of this piece. Overall condition is therefore very good,.and this piece would certainly make a fine addition to any furniture collection.   « Less

circa: 1940 width: 51 height: 33 length: 26 This exquisite burl walnut chest of drawers, styled much like the popular Bombay chest, was crafted in France around 1940. Recently, this piece was treated to a full restoration at the hands of a third-generation cabinetmaker in England. Included in the restoration were the addition of new burl walnut veneers, new hardware, and a fine French polish with a hand-rubbed wax coating. The result is a marvelous chest that would look great in any setting, and a structural integrity that will be sure to keep this chest sturdy and beautiful for generations to come. Very few signs of any original wear remain, but if you look closely at the skirt, you can see some slight wear to the edges, and the top central drawer retains an original purple felt lining that has worn significantly over the years. Originally, this chest would have also had a mirror or some other sort of backsplash attached to it, since the back shows marks where said attachment would have secured to the base.   « Less

The burl walnut displays a remarkably rich complexion and a highly pronounced, elaborate grain. Recently added during a restoration performed by a highly skilled cabinetmaker, the walnut veneers, along with the solid brass hardware, are a new addition to the underlying solid oak frame of the chest. The result is a gorgeous chest whose fresh appearance does justice to the sturdy structure of this piece. Over the years, the oak has developed a lovely patina, so that it now displays a rich complexion and a highly pronounced grain that are sure to look great in any setting. With two shelves, two drawers (one of which is lined with green felt an divided for silverware), and two locking cabinets, this dresser also contains plenty of storage space, and it disassembles for convenient movement and shipping. While sturdy, this Welsh dresser has sustained some superficial wear, including a variety of minor scuffs, some stains, and a few chips to the hutch. The sides of the hutch have also developed some separation between the boards, which is a component of the natural aging process of the wood. Overall condition therefore remains very good.   « Less

A third-generation cabinetmaker recently treated the chest to a fine hand-rubbed polish in addition to replacing the top and pulls. The result is a remarkably beautiful chest of drawers that remains as sturdy as ever, and with a new polish and a lovely patina, the mahogany displays a deep, lustrous complexion and a striking grain that are sure to look great in any setting. The brass hardware contrasts wonderfully with the mahogany, while the carved bun feet are as sturdy as they are elegant. Each drawer of course features hand-cut dovetails, and although they all operate smoothly, the locks no longer function. There is also an assortment of minor nicks and wear marks, although the level of superficial wear that this chest has endured is exceptionally minuscule, which is one of many indicators that this exquisite chest is a unique, museum-quality piece.   « Less
