Alice V. Kerr Nelson Hirschberg Watercolor painting of children on the sea shore. Circa 1900 24 1/4" high by 21 1/2" wide framed. This is a charming Victorian style watercolor signed Hirschberg. The signature and subject matter suggests that the artist is Alice V. Kerr Nelson Hirschberg. She was born 2/12/1856 and died in 1930. She was the daughter of George William Kerr Nelson the Lord of Chaddleworth Manor in Middlesex, England. She was also descended from Elizabeth Kerr a noted English floral painter. Alice was known for watercolors, illustrations, portraits, landscapes and elaborate interiors. She was widely exhibited in the United States. Some of the exhibits were at the Art Institute of Chicago, The Boston Art Club and The National Academy of Artistic Design. She has many listing in art books including Davenport''s Art Report, Who''s Who in American Art and Dictionary of Women Artists and the Artist''s Bluebook. Notes regarding Alice appear in the Smithsonian Archives of Artists along with her husband and son Georges Laurence Nelson. This watercolor painting is 18" wide by 15" high unframed. It has been framed in a polished golden burl wood frame and now measures 24 1/4" wide by 21 1/2" high, framed. The watercolor features three cherubic children enjoying a day at the beach. The subjects are a boy, girl and a baby. This is a lovely watercolor that has been in my collection since late 1980''s. I bought it from a Connecticut art dealer at Brimfield, Ma. It was unframed and matted under plastic at the time. I had it framed with acid free paper mat covered in striped polished cotton fabric and laid on the surface. The only glue is on the ribbon trim and it is water soluble. It was framed by Venetia Thompson of Principally Pictures who was well known for her artistic museum quality framing in California in the 1990''s. The watercolor is in good condition with no tears or stains. There is very slight foxing. This is a charming and heartwarming piece that will fit in any gentle decor.   « Less

15½" high by 11½" wide unframed 21" high by 17" wide framed This is a portrait of a young woman in casual attire of the 1940's. She could be 'Rosie the Riveter' with her blond hair in pigtails. She looks a lot like pictures of my Mom during the war, waiting for my Dad to return from Italy. The painting is Impressionism on board in good condition. The frame is original and has a few nicks. The painting is signed but I can't read the artist's flourish.   « Less

Circa 1900 & 1980 14" wide by 12" high This is a lovely decorative accessory custom made by California artist Kathleen Caid for Nightingale Design in the 1980''s. The two bookplates features four Victorian women dressed for a costume party. They are trimmed in French silk lingerie ribbon. The mat is covered with a rich gold brocade vintage fabric accented by a green ribbon and silk pale pink lingerie roses. The frame is vintage gold wood from the same period. This is a beautiful piece, so pretty that I have kept it all these years which flies in the face of my motto of giving your very best merchandise to your clients first. Who can blame me for this tiny little slip.   « Less
