This is a lovely set of little boy figural bookends made in France of gold washed spelter and mounted on green marble bases. The cherubic children sit back to back. The little boys are naked babies and some of the finish has worn off. The green and white marble is chipped but the bookend are vintage Art Deco and perfect for their function. I have owned them since the late 1990''s, I bought them in France and they were part of the fixtures of my Santa Monica antiques store that is now closed. I have sold most of my first edition books and find I need fewer bookends. It is rare for me to let bookends go. The bookends each measure 6 1/2'' long by 3 1/2'' deep by 5 1/2'' high. This is a lovely decorative tin portrait plate made in France in 1905. It is the portrait of a young Caterina de'' Medici of Florence who later became the wife of Henry 1V of France. She was a patroness of the arts and a leader in the Renaissance Movement. The tin is in good condition with some loss of paint on the gold borders and a slight loss on her left eyebrow. The colors are rich blue background with a scrolling wide gold border. In the portrait she is a young maiden with flowing locks and flowers in her hair. Her costume is ornate with a high ruffled collar and golden jewelry. The plate is 13'' in diameter. This plate is one of a series of the royalty of Europe done in the method of early lithography. Many of the others were originally painted by Asti. It is a beautiful decorative accessory, ready for display. This is one of those difficult to expain items. It is a decorative metal picture frame that has a print of two parrots in the oval center. Applied to the frame on either side of the image are small bunches of painted metal flowers that stand away from the frame. They are purple tulips and wheat sheaths. This is in charming shabby chic condition making it an unusual decorative object. There is paint peeling and several spots on the print where it is slightly torn. This is not for the person that likes perfection but rather for the person that apreciates the charm of a pretty found vintage object. This is a stunning faux bamboo Victorian firescreen. The bamboo is painted a muted gold. The screen has been covered on both sides in the center. One side is super feminine with handpainted flowers with butterflies embellished with French lingerie ribbons and flowers. The back side is covered in a more masculine gold and brown geometric pattern. The screen is in very good overall condition and is missing a piece of frettwork at the top right side. This is a treasure from my own personal collection. It was made as part of the decorative arts department of Nightingale Designs and stayed with me when I retired from retail. All of the parts are vintage. The frame is from France the handpainted fabrics are from England.
