Very slight rubbing to gilt. Victorian, circa 1890 Staffordshire figure depicting a girl standing on a circular base entitled ''RED MAID. BRISTOL'' in black indented capitals. She is holding a basket in her left hand and is wearing the uniform of The Red Maids school in Bristol which consisted of a straw bonnet with a white linen shawl and apron worn over a red dress. This school, along with The Colston school and George Muller''s school, were founded in Bristol by philanthropists to care for the poor and orphaned. Decorated all round.
