Victorian silver plated pair of knife rests. Star in wheel design ends. Bar is stamped C & Co in gothic script, probably made by Creswick and Co, England, circa 1855 to 1887. They each measure 7 cm wide by 3.5 cm high slightly curved ends. Very good condition - one knife rests has ends which are more curved than the other, probably a little bent over the years. « Less

Antique Irish Treen Ale Jug: A superior & substantial coopered Jug C.19thC
A superior and substantial very fine quality coopered Ale Jug made for the Irish market having silver plated
bands, unusually mounted diagonally engraved with birds, butterflies and flora, also
having an acorn finial and an incredible well detailed Bacchus Mask spout. The inside
ceramic insulator looking as if unused and bearing both the Irish retailers shield for
Austin of Dublin and the makers marks for John Grinsell & Sons, Birmingham.
Good Antique Condition with wear to the silver plate and usual shrinkage at
two of the staves leaving small gaps which is usual to find - please view images

MARKS - HALLMARKS - HISTORY
A business established in Birmingham before 1864 as Grinsell & Bourne.
When the partnership was dissolved (1871), John Grinsell started a new business with his sons (Thomas Bywater Grinsell, James Erazmus Grinsell, Lorenzo Grinsell and Joseph Charles Grinsell) as John Grinsell & Sons.
The firm was active at Victoria Works, 57 Tower Street, St. George's, Birmingham.
Show rooms were opened at 13 Charterhouse Street, Holborn Circus, London and 73 West Nile Street, Glasgow.
In 1905c. the firm was converted to John Grinsell & Sons Ltd. Later the firm was purchased by Barker Ellis & Co Ltd.
The trade mark "Cupid standing on a scroll" was registered in 1879.
The firm was specialized in the manufacture of silver-mounted glass or stoneware items.

A good silver plate on copper and blown glass Claret Jug by Hukin & Heath, the top having bacchus scenes and the lid with a rampant lion holding a vacant shield. The glass of unusual shape and star cut bottom - very lovely item.
Circa: late 19th / earcly 20th century
Good overall Antique Condition, the lid being pressed down a bit which is easy and cheap to put right and usual wear to the plate at highlights - please see images - glasss lightly cloudy although I can see dried liquor is inside so with proper cleaning should be fine (in images the glass looks cloudier then it really is due to the shapeof the base and light reflections)

MARKS - HALLMARKS - HISTORY
The firm, active as manufacturing silversmiths and electroplaters, was established in Birmingham in 1855. In 1875 the firm entered its mark in Birmingham Assay Office, while in 1879 the founders Jonathan Wilson Hukin and John Thomas Heath entered their mark in London Assay Office.The firm was active at Imperial Works, Great Charles Street, Birmingham and in the showrooms at 19 Charterhouse Street, London. J.T. Hukin retired in 1881 and in 1886 J.T. Heath continued the partnership with John Hartsghorne Middleton.In 1904 the business was converted into a limited liability company under the style Hukin & Heath Ltd.
