Antique Silver Plate : A pair Victorian cast Moorish Design Elkington Candlesticks A magnificent pair of Victorian cast silver plate Moorish Design Candlesticks by the renown silversmith Elkington & Co. An identical pair of Candlesticks is currently on display in the Silver Galleries of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London 10.25 inches (26cm) height approx Circa : 1854 About as good as they get and by the creme de la creme of English silversmith's; Elkington & Co. Beautifully cast and unusually with cast bases rather than the usual filled or weighted base, these are solid and nice and heavy, standing well. The sticks are further enhanced with beautifully shaped bases and removable sconces/drip pans. Each has a full mark for Elkington and being Elkington lucky enough to include a date letter, these dates this pair (Gothic P inside a diamond shaped lozenge). Superb in every way and in excellent condition Bio Elkington & Co. was a silver manufacturer from Birmingham, England. It was founded by George Richards Elkington and his brother, Henry Elkington, in the 1830s. It operated under the name G. R. Elkington & Co. until 1842, when a third partner, Josiah Mason, joined the firm. It operated as Elkington, Mason, & Co. until 1861, when the partnership with Mason was terminated. The firm operated independently as Elkington & Co. from 1861 until 1963. It was then taken over by British Silverware, Ltd.. In 1971 British Silverware, Ltd. became a subsidiary of Delta Metal Co. Ltd.[1] Over the course of history it became very successful and was one of the prime producers of silver plating. Elkington received various royal warrants of appointments. One of their most famous pieces is the electrotype copy of the Jerningham Wine Cooler, at the Victoria & Albert Museum. Large Art Deco vase by popular maker, WMF (Germany). Silver plate with four Deco enamel diamonds on an incised band around the middle of the vase. Measures 33 cm high and 12.25 cm diameter (13 inches by 4.7/8 inches). There is some spotting on the silver plate on one side, and a few marks. Some wear around the bands area. Looks worse in closeup photos than it appears in the flesh. Overall very good condition.   « Less

1920s-30s silver plated case with chain handle - opens to reveal a place for calling cards or even a cigarette or two in the lid, two coin slots for change, and another compartment that may have been for makeup or maybe a currency bill. Item measures 9 cm by 6.1 cm. It has a shallow line dent in the rear, and also on the rear some scuffs commensurate with age. The interior looks like new - the springs in the coin slots are still very firm, and the gilded interior is in excellent condition. The front of the case is also in excellent condition. Measures 4.3 cm high by 13.4 cm diameter. Some copper bleed showing on the high points, mainly around the top inside rim. Very good condition though. It has a family crest engraved to the side: a little cornucopia of flowers and a pitchfork. Circa mid 19th century.   « Less
