Circa 1775 Chinese Export Mandarin Palette Cup and Saucer made for the european, probably french market. The saucer measures 4 7/8" in diameter and is about 1" in depth. The demi cup is 2 3/4" in height and the opening is 2 1/2" in diameter. Nicely painted mandarin scenes on a veranda showing water and mountains in the background. The cup is in good condition with no chips or hairlines, etc. The saucer has three minor hairlines around the rim. This wonderful pattern also has a famille rose background on both the cup and the saucer. 18TH. Century cups and saucers are hard to find especially in this good condition.   « Less

Circa 1820-1840 Chinese Export Rare Nanking in Blue Cider Jug with Original Cover. Nicely applied woven double strapped handles with splotching. Nice blue color. Nanking was made for the English Market. Some people confuse the blue and white especially nanking and canton. The easiest way to distinguish the two are as follows: Nanking has a person on the bridge and Canton has no one on the bridge. This jug is very well painted scenes with a bird,pagodas and a boat in the water bearing a flag and a oriental figure. 10" in height and 6" in diameter. C.1760 Chinese Export Tobacco Leaf Pair of Platters in the "LADY AND WATER LILY Pattern. This pair of platters measure 10" X 7". These platters are in Excellent Condition and has just come out of the owner's estate. He had purchased them and other pieces over 25 years ago. They were purchased from Earl D. Vandekar of Knightsbridge, Inc. This company opened more than 100 years ago in Amsterdam. Their reputation is impeccable and to be able to purchase a item with this provenance is a pleasure and a honor. The family moved the gallery to London in 1916. After being located on Old Brompton Road for more than 40 years, Knightsbridge was added to the name. During this time, the gallery grew and became well known for carrying high quality 18th and 19th Century European and Chinese Export Porcelain. In 1982,Earle Vandekar's son Paul opened the New York branch where the family continues his family tradition. After the death of Earle, Paul has focused its energies on New York-where the current gallery is located.   « Less

Circa 1820 Chinese Export Blue and White Nanking reticulated underplate for a fruit/chestnut basket. Nanking was made for the English Market and usually dates earlier than blue canton which was made for the american market. Blue canton often referred to as balast for the ships bringing tea, etc to the western world. Nanking was a nicer and better quality chinese export blue and white porcelain that was made for the upper class in England. This fine reticulated underplate measures 9 3/4" X 8 1/2". In contrast to canton which has no body on the bridge, nanking usually has a person on the bridge and usually carrying a parasol. The pagodas and the trees,etc are usually of finer quality than canton and the reticulation is usually tighter than it's counterpart--blue canton. This piece is in Excellent Condition with no chips or restoration. Nice Blue Color.   « Less
