What a beautiful, and HEAVY, sterling gravy boat this is! How could this fail to make any dinner table more opulent? The interior is chased with gold. The sauce boat is hallmarked, but difficult to make out. Fortunately a pair of identical sauce boats auctioned at Sotheby's Geneva, November 10, 1987. The maker is noted as Bruder Frank. The decoration, tasteful but elegant, clearly hand cased. The size of this piece is a whopping 9" long, 6" high and 4" at the widest point. (Don't you just hate it when the gravy runs out, and you have to send someone to get it refilled? By the by, I'll be offering a dinner bell of mother of pearl to help with these little bothersome details: keep your eyes out!) This boat weighs in at over 14 troy ounces: weighs nearly a pound of pure sterling silver! Current appraisal is $1,000.00 hammer value.   « Less

Fabulous RARE solid sterling silver waiter tray. Produced by Amelie Cardeilhac, successor to Ernest, the quality is superior. This large sterling tray, oval in shape, boasts a large pearl border, with amazing finely chased acanthus handles, surface engraved with radiating lines, floral foliate swags and bearing an interlaced monogram in the center "LD". Condition is pristine. The handles and tray are marked with the Minerve 1st titre; French guarantee for .950 sterling, and the maker's punch for Amelie Cardeilhac. A magnificent piece! Hard to say what's nicest about this set, the exquisite a la Russe vermeil & sterling spoons, or the hand tooled original leather box. The 12 spoons are intricately decorated with bell flowers, 'pearls, scrolling acanthus finely chased and with mixed metal effect; stunning artistry. The bowls of the spoons inscribed with interlaced monogram "CM". The box is decorated with tooled and dyed leather top, divided into panels. A hunt theme describes the largest central panel. Either side of the top has two panels. one decorated with mythic creatures, wild animals, birds, in floral foliate relief; the other halves contrasting fruited foliate reliefs in varied color. The inside lined with red silk and in fine condition. A truly wonderful and unusual spoon set. Dimensions: the box is 12.75" long and 6.25" wide. The spoons are 5.25" long. Combined .950 sterling silver weight 204 grams. The spoons bear the maker's punch for Alphonse Debain, active in Paris in 1883, and the .950 sterling guarantee. Condition of all is very good to excellent. The box shows signs of use.   « Less
