Circa 1840 Chinese Export Rose Mandarin Chocolate or Coffee Pot measuring 9 1/2" in height. This piece is a very unusual shape and form and has been decorated in the rose mandarin and rose medallion scene. I believe that this was a French Limoge blank that was sent to China to be decorated. That is why we have never seen this rose medallion or rose mandarin form in Chinese Export Porcelain. I do believe it is a chocolate pot though and not a coffee pot. It has chinese marks on the base of the pot. The spout had a chip that has been professionally restored. « Less

Circa 1840 Chinese Export Famille Rose, Rose Canton Cache Pot, Bough Pots. These are the most unusual planters that I have seen in the rose medallion patterns. They are More »
Circa 1840 Chinese Export Famille Rose, Rose Canton Cache Pot, Bough Pots. These are the most unusual planters that I have seen in the rose medallion patterns. They are mounted in gilt metal stands which I feel are definetely French and date around 1820-1840. It was quite the fashion when these were made to have porcelain placed into mounts such as these. they would have initially been purchased as a mantel decoration and over the years have held small flowers, bulbs and plants. Flower and plant holders of any size and shape are getting harder and harder to find in chinese export porcelain and are very desirable, especially with ormolu. This particular pattern is rose canton since there are no people in the pattern. The pots are 4" and the bottom of the pot flares out and measures 4 1/2". The total height is 3 1/2". So if you could find a small orchid, that has a base or less than 4" they would work perfectly as size and would like fantastic. The ormolu is done very well and I imagine dates the same period as the pots. These would look great in a sun room or any small spot. Perfect Condition with no chips, cracks or restoration. These just came out of a estate in England and is one of two great items in ormolu that we just purchased. « Less

Circa 1730 Chinese Export Famille Rose Very Unusual and Very Large Mandarin Palette Mug/Tankard with Tobacco Leaf, Red and Gold, Circa 1730. The tankard has many nice More »
Circa 1730 Chinese Export Famille Rose Very Unusual and Very Large Mandarin Palette Mug/Tankard with Tobacco Leaf, Red and Gold, Circa 1730. The tankard has many nice attributes including a stylized dragon motiff in red along the spine of the handle, four tobacco leaves flanking the handle terminals and a host of other symbols. Their are several clusters of pine, prunus (wild plum trees) and rocks that denote simplicity, longevity and late winter. The age of this tankard is between 1720-1745 which means it is either late Kangxi (K'ang-hsi), Yongzheng (Yung-cheng) or Early Quianlong (Ch'ien-lung). If any Chinese Export Collector can refine this please let me know. This Tankard measures over 5 1/2" in height and the diameter at the top opening is 5". This is a mug of not only a unusual decoration but very different colors than we have had in the mandarin palette. We have never seen a mug with the tobacco leaf pattern included into a pattern of the mandarin palette mug. Gold background with some normal wear and a large scene of four figures under a tree and encircled with a vine of flowers and tobacco leaves. On each side of this landscape scene is a house and mountain scene in the lotus color. This complete scene covers about 75% of the mug. The last quadrant which is on each side of the handle has a rose with tobacco leaves. The top border of blue and white might mean that it was made for the english market. The bottom of the mug has a orange like border. Their is a firing mark on the inside of the handle. Also in the eighth image, the brown spot on the base of the mug must have been in the making. Very Good Condition. No Restoration. « Less

20TH Century Chinese Export Reproduction of a Sacred Bird and Butterfly Plate measuring 6 7/8" in diameter. Historic Charleston Reproduction Made By Mottahedeh. More »
20TH Century Chinese Export Reproduction of a Sacred Bird and Butterfly Plate measuring 6 7/8" in diameter. Historic Charleston Reproduction Made By Mottahedeh. Mottahedeh was and still is a factory in Portugal. Mildred Mottahedeh was one of if not the largest and most well known collector of 18th and 19th century chinese export porcelain. She loved it so much that she and her husband Raffi opened a factory in Portugal many years ago to reproduce these fine antique examples. The original orange sacred bird and butterfly pattern was made in the early to late 19th century. There was a lady in the Washington, D.C. Area who before she died gave her collection to the Historic Charleston, S.C. Museum. Mottahedeh apparently came along and reproduced it and it is sold in CHARLESTON. Several years ago I met this ladies daughter at a show in Washington, D.C. at a show I was exhibiting at and she has started purchasing old antique pieces of this pattern from me. « Less
