Here is a mid 19th century JAPANESE TEA CEREMONY box featuring a charming rendition of sleeping Buddha with his bag used as a large pillow. Rendered to the Japanese taste, this exquisite lacquer box includes a bordered gilt tray with a subtle spray of tied chrysanthemums and leaves. The reverse of tray,lid and box interior are dusted with a gilt bronze nashiji ground. Condition is very fine, with very minor wear to gilt on edges, appropriate for a work of this period. Photos do not capture the whimsical nature of this stunning box .Additional photos upon request. The ovoid tea jar has a soft mellow patina and beautifully worked hammered copper details. This tea caddy in Ginger jar form is a rare find as early pewter was frequently resmelted to make bullets and other lead implements as needed.

Multi colored border details in bold primary colors create a striking display plate. The bowl is early 19th century. Hand thrown and unglazed. About 14 inches in diameter. French (Old Paris) mid 19th century or earlier porcelain two part small box of an elegant lady riding side saddle on her horse. Much attention to fine details in form and minute polychrome and hand applied gilt on the horsewoman, her attire and her dapple grey mount. The horse appears to be in the middle of a jump over multi-colored leaves. A pair of hounds run alongside, looking up at their mistress.. Exceptionally charming early bibelot box which displays beautifully. The box is unsigned, but bears the number "319" inside the top. A collectors treasure.
