A hard to find pair of knole sofas with Moorish or Turkish style backs , made by Baker Furniture we believe in the late 1970's (or to be safe second half of 20th century ) . We have had two other pair over the past 20 years . All in similiar condition . These are worn , need cushions to be re-stuffed and possibly springs tightened . The last pair we had was in red velvet . The designer who bought them said it took 16 yards of fabric (mohair in her case ) PER sofa and $1700 in labor for both (including the tack work ) . Her finished product appeared in Veranda 2009 . So be prepared for some upholstery work but compare a pair of knoles (and our price) to those found in a google search or on trade sites such as 1stdibs.com . Skovby was founded by a talented cabinet maker, Thorvald Rasmussen in 1933. At 23 years old, the young Rasmussen started up his own family business in his mother's little house in Skovby. He was talented, hard working with Thorvald's own tools allowing for small-scale production of quality handmade furniture. In 1943 Thorvald would hire on several apprentices and built an expansion behind his mother's house increased shop space. In 1955 post-war years' rationing was succeeded by a growing demand for long-lasting consumer goods creating a furniture boom in Europe. Joining his father, Villy Rasmussen along with his father beagn turning Skovby into a modern industrial business. The company has expanded several times over the years including a new factory built in Galten. Today, this family business includes the third generation of Rasmussens with Villy and Erna's sons Jørgen and Preben. Three Danish factories, each with thier own area of specialization make up the production of Skovby furniture products. Made to the highest quality offering both form and function in their designs. Skovby continues to build impressive Scandinavian furniture utilizing unique features, finishes and upholstery fabrics. This beautiful bedroom set was manufactured by Continental and date stamped Jan 1, 1962 and was distributed by Vanleigh (New York - Montreal). This set consists of: Highboy that measures 59.5" tall, 20" deep and 41.25" wide. It has a two door top with a three partitioned shelf, and two drawers as well as three low drawers. Chest of drawers that measures 33" tall, 21" deep and 78.5" wide with three drawers on each side and in the center is a large drawer, with two doors with two drawers behind it. A King headboard that measures 79" wide and 42.5" high. Two nightstands that measure 26.25" tall by 16.75 deep by 26" wide with two doors and open space and a single drawer.
