Antique hand painted miniature portrait of Marie Antoinette signed Lebrun. Set in a brulle turtle shell frame. The frame does have some minor lifting and splitting but all pieces are intact. The painting is set behind convex glass with a ornate brass oval rim. Fram has a green floral fabric backing with a blue /white Harke label attached. A ring is on the back for hanging, there is a nail hole on the top where it may have originally been. I think this is painted on ivory but am just not sure. Frame measures 4 1/2" x 5 1/4" while portrait measures 2" x 2 1/2". Measures are approx. I don't know the age of this painting but I do know It is real and not a transfer.   « Less

1962. Original oil on canvas by Monroe Reisman Canvas size : 18x24 Frame size : 21.5 x 27.5 Monroe Reisman ( 1910 - 2004 ) Monroe Reisman was born in New York City on June 5, 1910, "Monie" as he was known, was a sports columnist and illustrator at the age of 19 for major New York newspapers and magazines. He attended Pratt Institute and the Art Students League at nights and became a well known illustrator for 20th Century Fox and other national accounts. He moved with his wife Fay, who predeceased him in 1993 and his two sons to Dallas, TX in 1948. There he did advertising illustrations for Dr. Pepper, Republic Bank and the award winning painting and promotion of the movie "The Ten Commandments". He became President of the Advertising Association of Dallas in 1954. He returned with his family to NY in 1967, becoming a highly regarded portrait painter and local art teacher. He died January 29, 2004 at the Ferncliff Nursing Home in Rhinebeck, NY at the age of 93.   « Less

A beautifully limned miniature portrait painting, on natural organic material, by Raphaelle Peale. The sitter is a nice looking gentleman wearing a black coat, white stock and shirt. Housed in a metal case with a lock of hair in the glazed aperture on the reverse. Condition of the painting is excellent, with no issues. The case is in good condition with some dents on the reverse. The sight size is 2" by 1 5/8", and the framed size is 2 3/8" by 2". NOTE: Raphaelle Peale (1774 - 1825) was a member of the Peale family, which encompassed 17 artists, including Rembrandt, Anna Claypool, Charles Wilson, James, Rubens, etc. He was born in Annapolis, MD, and was the oldest son of Charles Wilson Peale, and was considered an extremely fine miniaturist and painter.   « Less

Cut out bust-length silhouette of young woman, hairstyle and clothing correct to early half of 19th century. Purely a silhouette, no shading or cut detail inside the portrait. It is contained in a reeded wooden frame with top loop for hanging. Rear has a very thin sheet of wood with a trade label attached. The label is printed in italics with capital letters for the important words. (ONE SHILLING, and HUBARD GALLERY and MASTER HUBARD). The label is 5.15 cm by 6.4 cm ( 2 inches by 2.1/2 inches). Frame measures 12cm by 9.75 cm. Silhouette card measures 10.2 cm by 7.7 cm. On the rear wooden sheet is written in pencil is the name "Eleanor". You can google Hubard, most activity in these silhouettes are early to mid 19th century. A good example of one of these rare items. This item came from England. Condition: Silhouette is in very good condition - some normal age slight yellowing to the card, but excellent really. (The marks you may see in the photo are reflections of light on the glass). The frame has wear, and the rear sheet of wood has splits and wear. Label is yellowed, but very legible. There is one tack keeping the wood, silhouette and glass in the frame, and one missing, so a little precarious here. Will leave this to the new owner to correct.   « Less

Miniature portrait of Queen Victoria in her younger years, 1840s. The rear of the portrait has the remains of an old browned paper backing sheet on which is written "184... (this part is torn away). VICTORIA. Pitt-Hercules Collection". Typical black ebonised miniature mount, with gilded flower and circle hanger. Whole measures 13 cm by 11 cm (just over 5 inches by 4.1/4 inches). Excellent condition, can't tell on what surface the portrait is painted, as I don't want to remove the backing. Well-painted. Any blemishes in photos will be reflections off the glass under which it is mounted. Shipping is by International Air Courier (insured) unless a cheaper option is requested.   « Less

Miniature painting: a round oak frame with gilt inset framing a portrait of three women in Georgian period clothes. Nicely painted, fine crackle and some larger cracks to surface, but only noticeable under magnification or against the light. Can't tell what it is painted on - possibly vellum. Not canvas though, and not thick enough for board. Very good condition. Whole measures 13.5 cm diameter.   « Less
