You are viewing an exquisite pair of bronze female blackamoor torcheres that stand in at an impressive five and a half feet tall. I hope the photos do this fine pair some justice, they are certainly more impressive in the flesh. They have been cast from the finest bronze which has a wonderful patina - gold for the dress and the bowl they hold up and black or their bodies and heads. They also stand on a circular white marble pedestal base. These really are an impressive pair and would look great as part of your home interiors scheme. They would look great in a hall or entrance foyer. The casting is superb, the artist has really caught the beauty and poise of the females with great skill. Observe details like their facial features and the wonderful way their dresses have been rendered. They each hold a gold bowl aloft and they are a perfect pair. We bought these from an architectural salvage company in Regents Park after they were originally bought from a local residence. We suspect they may originally be French in origin although we do not know the foundry they were cast in. They are both offered in perfect condition ready for home use right away and we will ship these to anywhere in the world. Dimensions are in inches: 66 x 18 x 16   « Less

Description: You are viewing a gorgeous Italian bronze casting of Mercury - the messenger of the Gods in Roman mythology. The piece stands in at 4.5 feet tall so he's quite a large statue - a perfect collection to any interior. He stands on the face of a head and this is obviously relevant to the myth. The patina is wonderful and this is offered in great shape ready for home dispaly right away. Mercury (mythology), in Roman mythology, messenger of the gods, the son of the god Jupiter and of Maia, the daughter of the Titan Atlas. Mercury was also the god of merchants and of trading and shared many of the attributes of the Greek god Hermes. The worship of Mercury was introduced into Rome in 495 bc when a temple was dedicated to him near the Circus Maximus. His festival was celebrated on May 15. He was well known as the "Conductor of Souls" and was qualified to control the souls of the dead and guide them to Hades, the underworld. He is depicted in mythological art wearing a broad- beamed hat and the sandals of a traveler, with wings attached to both, and his magic wand in his hand. I hope the photos do this stunning pair some justice, they are certainly more impressive in the flesh. The details are exquisite, these really are a lavish pair ready to add style and elegance to any interior. The figures are hand painted in luxurious colours, gold for the dress, the red pedestal base and the black for the skin tones. The brush work is very intricate, definitely the work of a steady and skilled hand. The details on the carved sections are also very intricate, inluding the sun heads to the base, beaded edges and of course the figures themselves, particulary features like the drape to the dress and their marvellous facial expressions. Description: You are viewing a wonderful casting depicting a horse and jockey, and the overall sculpture stands in at an impressive nearly four feet. The piece is a recast from a Mene and this is signed on the base. Mene was the reknowned French sculpture famous for his depictions of animals, particularly horses and this is a fine example. Of course being bronze this piece can live outside with no fear of rusting and this would make a wonderful garden ornament. Mene has captured the movement and energy of the scene with skill, check out details like the muscle tone to the horse as he breaks into a cantour. The jockey is shown leaning to one side stroking the horses mane. It's a wonderful picee, offered in perfect condition and ready for home use right away. We will ship this to anywhere in the world.
