This is a stunning faux bamboo Victorian firescreen. The bamboo is painted a muted gold. The screen has been covered on both sides in the center. One side is super feminine with handpainted flowers with butterflies embellished with French lingerie ribbons and flowers. The back side is covered in a more masculine gold and brown geometric pattern. The screen is in very good overall condition and is missing a piece of frettwork at the top right side. This is a treasure from my own personal collection. It was made as part of the decorative arts department of Nightingale Designs and stayed with me when I retired from retail. All of the parts are vintage. The frame is from France the handpainted fabrics are from England. Tooled embossed and handpainted leather center features a large spider inhabited spider web and hydrangea flowers in purple and white with green foliage. It is a piece that has overtones of three periods with Victorian wood work, Arts and Crafts and Art Nouveau themes. The condition of the front of the screen is excellent. There is one piece of molding missing on one foot. The back panel of leather that would face the fire is torn. This is a fabulous decorative object that I bought from a very exclusive antiques gallery in Scotland in the early 1990''s. It has been with me since then at my home.
