Exceptional and rare 3 piece tea set in French sterling silver covered with gold! The baluster shaped tea pot, lidded sugar and cream each exquisitely engraved floral, More »
Exceptional and rare 3 piece tea set in French sterling silver covered with gold! The baluster shaped tea pot, lidded sugar and cream each exquisitely engraved floral, foliate rocailles cartouches. Each piece stands atop four feet attached to the bodies with sumptuous chased acanthus leafs. The lobed bodies are accented with chasing at the seams or mid-points of the depressions, bordered with foliate engraving. The depressions match the tips of the acanthus attachments, providing an overall effect of a graceful extension of the foliage. rarely have i seen such fine chasing. The sugar and tea pot have simply magnificent bird finials. Dating from the mid-1800's, the set is in wonderful condition. There is some wear to the gilt in spots. Usual signs of age; but nothing so pronounced as to constitute an actual flaw.
Marks: all pieces bearing the Minerve 1st Titre, .950 sterling guarantee dating from 1838. Also each piece marked on the bottom with the Martial Fray punch, active from 1849-1861. Dimensions: the pot is 8.5" tall, 8.75" long and 5" diameter; weight 505 grams. Lidded sugar: 6.5" tall, 7.5" long, 5.25" diameter; 460 grams. Cream: 6" tall, 6" long, 4" diameter; 220 grams. Combined weight 1185 grams, over 38 troy ounces! « Less

Fabulous French Empire Revival tea service including a tea pot, creamer and lidded sugar. Beautifully crafted by S & Fils, this set made of the better than sterling .950 More »
Fabulous French Empire Revival tea service including a tea pot, creamer and lidded sugar. Beautifully crafted by S & Fils, this set made of the better than sterling .950 silver that makes French sterling collectors of the most discerning sophisticated connoisseur. Each piece decorated with stiff leaf borders & palmetto attachments for the intricately textured legs. The pot and lidded sugar have fluted top knops with stiff leaf bases. The tea pot has a magnificent eagle's head, Napoleon's treasured symbol of Empire, surmounting the tip of the spout. The spout base exquisitely adorned with large scrolling acanthus, and again a stiff leaf base. All legs terminate in paw feet. Condition is good. There are some minor signs of use; a ding here, modest depression there. My silversmith carefully went over every millimeter, and this set is freshly polished. The cream and tea pot have ebony handles. Each piece bears the Minerve 1st titre; French guarantee for .950 silver; and the maker's stamp for S & Fils. Circa 1890-1911.
Dimensions: Tea pot is 10" tall, 9.25" long and 4.5" diameter. It weighs 865 grams. The sugar is 8.5" tall, 6.25" long (handle to handle) and 4.5" diameter, weighing 590 grams. And the cream is 6.5" tall, 4.5" long, 3.25" diameter and weighs 255 grams. The total weight is 1710 grams; that's 54.977 troy ounces, 3.76 pounds. « Less

A beautiful tea set. Produced by the renowned Maison Odiot, this set is notable for both it's superb decorative appeal as well as it's unusual weight. The swirling fluted bodies are emphasized by textured stripes. The tops and bottoms of the bodies are lavished with finely chased rocailles that undulate gently like molten silver. Handles are pierced and textured bands, a strapping effect, edged and attached with scrolling foliate accents, especially elaborate and finely chased at the points of attachment. The lids of pot and sugar mirror the body design, as do the delightful top knops. The top knops are attached to the lids upon elegant chased acanthus leaf quartets. The spout of the teapot highlights the molted silver effect, the base richly chased rocaille, the tip flowing rivers of silver drops, and further enhanced with a charming cartouche and large 'pearls'. The spout of the cream is fashioned in a form reminiscent of a large upside down bell flower, partially fluted, emerging from a foliate case, the edge of the spout 'dripping' more of that melted silver. Absolutely delicious set in very fine condition. Rare and unusual pattern, not to be missed!
Dimensions: Tea pot is 8.5-9" tall, 7.5" diameter and weighs over 2 pounds! 1220 grams to be specific. the sugar also weighs over 2 pounds:985 grams. It is 7.25" tall, 8.5" long and 6" diameter. The cream is 5" tall, 6.25" long, 4.75" diameter and 435 grams. The combined weight in troy ounces is: 74.29.
Marks: each piece bears the .950 sterling guarantee, the maker's mark for Maison Odiot, Prevost, Recipion & Cie, and the numeral 1234. This mark dates the set between 1894-1906.
Condition: excellent. No notable flaws. I find no deformations, dings, dents. There is some tenacious tarnish and apparent aging to the original ivory heat insulators. What I would call usual signs of aging and use. « Less

Rare Wedgwood Jasperware coronation tea set. What makes this set extra unusual is the fact that Edward VIII was never coroneted. He abdicated the throne to marry an American divorcee before his coronation could take place. Besides it's historical significance and rarity, this set is a fine example of Wedgwood Jasperware with a brilliant blue color and crisp, pure white decoration. An identical set is in the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto. The set is fresh from a local Brooklyn estate and appears to be unused. Unfortunately, the spout of the tea pot was damaged when we received it so we have had it professionally restored and no damage is visible to the naked eye. Alas, this renders it suitable for display only. The very top of the cover on the sugar also looks slightly rough but I believe this is original to it's making. We have many additional pictures available. Tea pot 5" tall x 9" wide x 6 1/2" deep, sugar bowl 4 3/4" tall x 5 1/2" wide x 5" deep, creamer 2 1/2" tall x 5" wide x 4" deep. « Less
