Absolutely pristine condition for this vintage Meissen bowl. The body of this bowl is formed with cartouches, lamberkins and rocaille. The reticulated sides are formed as an interconnected lattice. And the handles are twisted. All of this is in the white ground. The cartouches are painted with floral bouquets, as is the center of the bowl. The handles and rim is lined with gold. A piece of very pure design and execution, well cared for, without any flaw to be fond. « Less

All that glitters IS gold on these plates! Tons of it, wide wide swathe of etched gilt border on a white ground. The plates, 10.5" diameter, are shaped and formed in a sinuous manner. each has a floral bouquet in the center portion of the plate. Condition is good; there is some minor loss to the gild as well as a few small smudge marks. Of course, the amount of gold is so exorbitant, it isn't so easy to find the imperfections. « Less

Set of 8 dinner plates plus 1 (9 total) in a most unusual shade of amethyst. These plates are 10.75" in diameter, and an 1" high. There are two bands of coin gold, each band etched in an appealing Art Deco motif. The coin gold bands surround a swath of amethyst sponge work. These plates are all marked Royal Bavarian Hutschenreuther, and Coin Gold. The mark dates from the late 1800's-early 1900's. As the etching is Art Deco, I would date the plates to the 1930's. Condition is very good. The only imperfections are signs of use visavis some loss, minor, the the inner gold band chiefly, and a few knife marks. No chips, flakes or hairlines. These plates are impressive; and perfect for the more innovative decorator. « Less

New inventory of porcelain sets coming in. Love this one! A very hard to find set of 12 service plates by Royal Doulton; The white ground is banded in a subdued dark blue....almost a Williamsburg Blue.... with gilt edged Wedgwood blue cartouches with ornate central floral gilt decoration. The dark blue bands are decorated with heavy impasto gilt between the cartouches with graceful arabesques. An elaborate fleur de lis motif. The blue bands are edged with a gold border in a classic geometric pattern, and the rims are also gilt. Amazing artistry here, delicate, intricate highest quality.
Each plate is marked (please see photos, as well for thee dimensions). Condition is very good. No flaws to note, the beaded gilt is amazingly intact. Normal signs of some use. There was some loss to the the dark blue bands. But I had these plates professionally restored. That means you should not put them into a dishwasher; but who would put extravagant vintage Royal Doulton service plates into a dishwasher anyway ;)
A charming and formal service for your elegant dining. « Less

Fabulous set of 10 dinner plates all hand painted and gilt by Ambrosius Lamm, 1887-1949. This set made prior to 1920. The white ground spectacularly painted with red roses and the gilding! So sumptuous is the elaborate gilt work comprised of lattices, scrolling foliate accents, heavy gold 'beads' with multiple gold linear edges. Condition is excellent. there is some very minor loss to the gilt along the sides of the plates; but no loss at all to the tops. Clearly a well cared for set! « Less

This charming figurine, a seated woman with a standing child and a book at her feet, is enveloped in mystery. Is this Athena teaching Daedalus? Calliope or Clio? My research of available images does not definitively answer the questions. And who produced this lovely porcelain, when? Again, I am unable to identify the mark or the age. Nonetheless, it is lovely and of reasonably good quality. Not Meissen of course. But the style suggests German origin. The last time I had one of these mystery pieces it was only much later that I learned of it's vaunted nature. The buyer got a magnificent piece at a very low price! I am filled with regret at selling that piece. This figure comes with an unremarkable wooden plinth. The condition of the figurine is excellent. No flaws that I discern. « Less

Symbols of long life and good fortune, the crane is a most cherished symbol, and bird of course, for the Japanese. And cranes abound in this oh so Victorian pattern by Minton. Condition quite good. Some crazing and discoloration, mild. The yellowing can be bleached out; at a risk. Antiques are often more valuable left "as is". This would seem to me to be a vanity set. It bears the Minton mark extant during the late 1800's, towards the latter portion of the Victorian era. Chinoiserie was extremely popular in England and Europe, in part because the first porcelain formulas came from the Far East. This set is an absolute gem! « Less

A rare opportunity indeed: for your consideration, a part of the service of Louis-Philippe, King of the French from 1830-1848. Pure classic white ground, generously edged with 24k gold, each piece bearing the king's crown & initials within a laurel wreath. On the creamer, in addition, there is a decorative border of ivy. Each piece fully marked for Sevres. The creamer with the Green Sevres mark, dating the piece to 1846. The plate, the Sevres mark in blue with the fleur de lys & the mark or the Chateau de Compiegne.
A wonderful French collector of Louis-Philippe pieces just contacted me. He very generously provided me with pictures of his collection and additional information regarding the cream offered here. Alain said that the red mark is for the private castle of Eu, near Treporte in Normandy; at this time a museum dedicated to Louis-Philippe. Alain also told me that this Sevres model is called "pot a lait raccourci". Collectors are, in my experience, often the best sources of information. Last year I found a very charming cup & saucer with a convincing set of marks for Sevres; even fooled the porcelain 'experts' at the big auction houses. But this marvelous man, a Sevres collector in Germany, helped us all to pin the piece down as a very fine reproduction made by a porcelain house in Germany that specialized in Sevres reproduction and duplication, even dried the porcelain the same way that Sevres did. Excellent reproductions can be valuable themselves of course. But the pieces offered to you here are genuine! They are Sevres and they are parts of Louis-Philippe's private service. Of course, Louis-Philippe had more than one set of porcelain. « Less
