Molded on an oval base. Granulated clay coats to the sheep. Dull gilt base line and clock face. Vent hole to underside. Good. No cracks. One small paint loss to the front. Some rubbing to gilt. Kiln effects: clay frits missing from top sheep''s coat; shrinkage line to the underside; crazing; kiln soot caught in the glaze to the front. Victorian, circa 1890 Staffordshire figure depicting a boy and girl standing side by side on an oval base entitled ''GEORGE MULLERS ORPHANS BRISTOL'' in black indented capitals. She carries a basket and he carries a bag. Both children are wearing the uniform of the school founded by George Muller. This school, along with The Red Maids school and Christ''s Hospital school, were founded in Bristol by philanthropists to care for the poor and orphaned. Decorated all round. Similar piece illustrated figure 2219, page 142, Schiffer''s ''Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875'' Book 2, by A.& N. Harding. Good. No cracks. No hairlines. A milkmaid is kneeling beneath the cow with a pail in front of her. The cow''s mouth forms the pouring hole. Hole with cover to the cow''s back for pouring the cream into. Decorated all round. Small vent hole to underside of base. Good. Three small chips to underside. Small flake to cow''s mouth, horns, neck, rim of pouring hole and reverse of base. The other gent is leant back over his horse. Three legs of each horse molded free. Dull gilt base line. Vent hole to underside. No book reference found. Good. Some rubbing to gilt. Kiln effect: slight glaze run from the cobalt glaze. Right facing: Small paint loss to ground. Repair to the horse''s head with bridle retouched. Restored chip to horse''s neck, lower base edge at front and reverse. Restoration of gent''s right foot. Left facing: Small paint loss to saddle at reverse.
