The Bathers bronze sculpture by Chester CT sculptor Mrs. Knollenberg (her late husband was the historianBernard Knollenberg) studied first in New York, and in 1933 she won a Guggenheim Fellowship to study in Paris. September 6th 1981 Article in the New York Times about the show at The Wall Focus Gallery In Chester CT where this sculpture was purchased. It was one of seventeen pieces exhibited. Unsigned pair of Luke Gwilliam bronze sculptures of nude male torsos c1955 Luke Guilliam was born 1911 and died in 1989. Gwilliam joined the New York art scene in 1951 after graduating from Worchester Art Museum when he was forty years old. His paintings were very well received in the 1950 and 1960's,often mentioned in the New York Times exhibit reviews. He was included in museum exhibits at the River Museum, WhitneyMuseum of American Art, the Society of Four Arts, and the Brooklyn Museum. This modern sculpture entitled "The Sentry" was created by "Brian McCarthy" of New London CT. Brian is best known for "figural abstract" welded steel sculptures. He was born June 16, 1945 and began art school at age 6 he studied under Thomas Hughes Ingle (Show Whitney Museum 1956) and was later influenced by Harris Rodvogin. he formalized his art education at the Connecticut College in New London 1969 to 1973. Presently his work is in private collections in South Hampton LI, Connecticut College, German Naval Headquarters Eichenforde Germany and several other American and European collections. All works are meant to be displayed outdoors. Three large pieces are on display in "The Sculpture Mile" show in Madison CT. Theseexhibits are sponsored by the Hollycroft Foundation, Ivoryton, CT, and are curated by William Bendig, the director and former editor of Art Gallery Magazine. This Modern Sculpture measures 68 inches high by 13 inches wide by 1 inch thick with a base that is 17 by 28 inches.   « Less
