Old, dull gilt collars, lockets and chains. Decorated all round. Vent hole to reverses and undersides. Generally good. Rubbing to gilt. Right facing: No restoration. Staining to front right paw. Left facing: Bruise below ear. Kiln effects: kiln grit caught in the glaze to left leg. Glaze miss to top of head. Repaired crack to chest. Repaired mold join crack along the spaniel''s back. Both arms and one leg of each are molded free. Shaped bases with old, dull gilt decoration to the front and to their clothes. Decorated all round. Hollow bases with a painted mark. Both on horseback molded on gilt tilted bases, each horse has three legs molded free. Bright colorful glazes, dull gilt decoration, title and line to base. Vent hole to reverse. Similar pieces illustrated figures 737/738, page 213, Schiffer''s ''Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875'' Book 1, by A.& N. Harding. Good. Louis: Two chips to lower base edge. Two chips to underside. A few paint losses to horse''s tail and harness. She carries a basket and he carries a bag. Both children are wearing the uniform of the school founded by George Muller. This school, along with The Red Maids school and Christ''s Hospital school, were founded in Bristol by philanthropists to care for the poor and orphaned. Decorated all round. Vent hole to reverse.
