This is a beautiful and large Heisey plate with graceful and elegant sterling silver overlay in both concentric circles and flowing fronds. This piece has a very 50's feel to me; although I've not been able to locate the pattern or date it.This plate is 12" diameter with a maximum depth of 2". As shown in the last pic, the silver reflects whatever you place on it; great display piece! Condition is good: some minor loss to the silver. The bottom is cut glass, and the Heisey mark, the diamond surrounding an H, rests in center. Condition is good. No significant flaws; just minor signs of wear to the silver.   « Less

Spectacular antique French Vernis Martin egg decorated with Chinoiserie! Hand painted and gilt with a large figural scene, featuring an elegantly dressed seated woman with a fan, and two architectural scenes adorned with foliage and birds. The egg is mounted on silver, guaranteed by the Boar's Head punch for small items. I frankly do not know if the egg was mounted later; the hallmarks date from the late 1800's. The silversmith is a rare female master: Maria Remy, of Paris, active from 1896. Condition is very good, some hairlines and very minor loss to the gilt. Fabulous piece. PLUS this comes from the estate of the Comte & Comtesse de Paris, in line for the Royal Crown had the monarchy continued to reign in France.   « Less

What a great bottle or jar! The pate de verre glass is polychrome with lots of green striations, gentle purples and russets. The bottle is mounted with sterling silver Art Nouveau decoration. The base is encircled with swans, standing and drinking water from a stylized pond or lake. The securely hinged lid has a dragonfly motif on top, and a woman's head with floral embellishments on the front cover. The rim of the base is bordered with a floral foliate motif. The rim decoration and inside of the lid is gilt. At one time it appears the entire cover was gold plated. Much of that gilding has been lost; but not all. So there is a dreamy golden glow suffusing the dragonflies and the floral bedecked woman. The loss actually enhances the beauty of this particular piece! Condition is very good indeed. Other than the loss to the gilt, the piece is nearly perfect. Both base and cover are marked with the French export silver guarantee, the Head of Mercury, 2nd titre for 800/1000 parts silver. Each also bear a maker's mark which is partially rubbed and hence indecipherable. A beautiful and highly unusual piece!   « Less

Exceptional and rare 3 piece tea set in French sterling silver covered with gold! The baluster shaped tea pot, lidded sugar and cream each exquisitely engraved floral, foliate rocailles cartouches. Each piece stands atop four feet attached to the bodies with sumptuous chased acanthus leafs. The lobed bodies are accented with chasing at the seams or mid-points of the depressions, bordered with foliate engraving. The depressions match the tips of the acanthus attachments, providing an overall effect of a graceful extension of the foliage. rarely have i seen such fine chasing. The sugar and tea pot have simply magnificent bird finials. Dating from the mid-1800's, the set is in wonderful condition. There is some wear to the gilt in spots. Usual signs of age; but nothing so pronounced as to constitute an actual flaw. Marks: all pieces bearing the Minerve 1st Titre, .950 sterling guarantee dating from 1838. Also each piece marked on the bottom with the Martial Fray punch, active from 1849-1861. Dimensions: the pot is 8.5" tall, 8.75" long and 5" diameter; weight 505 grams. Lidded sugar: 6.5" tall, 7.5" long, 5.25" diameter; 460 grams. Cream: 6" tall, 6" long, 4" diameter; 220 grams. Combined weight 1185 grams, over 38 troy ounces!   « Less

Absolutely exquisite and rare knife set for 12, comprised of 12 dinner size and 12 dessert or salad size knives. Made by renowned Parisian silversmith, Victor Boivin, in the late 1800's; quality and condition are excellent. The decoration is a Rococo partially fluted handle with a finely chased asymmetric rocaille terminal. The handles are enhanced by lattices, floral foliate sprigs and swaths of scrolling acanthus. Noteworthy is the absence of any monogram on these knives; the area reserved for a monogram is ready for yours, personalizing this heirloom potential prize! All pieces bear the Minerve 1st titre, the French .950 sterling guarantee, and the maker's marks for Victor Boivin, 83 rue de Temple (Ravinet d'Enfert succ.). The original box is lost to time, and these knives are too large to fit into most knife boxes; so these come with fine vintage Tiffany sterling silver wraps to preserve them and protect them from tarnish. The blades are the original steel; a bit of oxidation which on this set only enriches the antique patina. I wouldn't remove it, let alone replace the blades with new ones (thus depressing the value, by the way). A sublime marriage of Rococo and Louis XV styling, you'll be hard pressed to find a set this fine anywhere. These are offered at less than one half the price you would pay today to have these knives made for you.   « Less
