USA Late 19th - early 20th century Albert Rosenthal (American, 1863-1939) was born in New Hope, Pennsylvania, some 40 miles from Philadelphia. Known as a painter, etcher and lithographer, he studied in Philadelphia, Paris and Munich. He was awarded bronze medals at both the St. Louis Exposition of 1904 and the Panama-Pacific Exposition of 1915, and his work is held in many museums and private collections. Thomas Francois Cartier studied under George Gardet and started exhibiting at the Salon in 1904, winning an honorable mention in the Salon in 1908 and a gold medal in 1927.
