Albert Rosenthal (American, 1863-1939) was born in New Hope, Pennsylvania, some 40 miles from Philadelphia. Known as a painter, etcher and lithographer, he studied in Philadelphia, Paris and Munich. He was awarded bronze medals at both the St. Louis Exposition of 1904 and the Panama-Pacific Exposition of 1915, and his work is held in many museums and private collections. This work shows a horse-powered mill for grinding sorghum, used in making molasses. The dimensions given below are for the framed piece; the image size is 9 1/2" x 11 1/2". « Less

Measures 16 inches high, 24 inches long with a 8.5 inches wide base and 4.5 inches wide at the sculptures center. Rich old original patina. Weights 79 lbs. Thomas Francois Cartier studied under George Gardet and started exhibiting at the Salon in 1904, winning an honorable mention in the Salon in 1908 and a gold medal in 1927.
