Dull gilt base line and decoration to the steps, doors, windows and front wall. Impressed ''C'' mark to base of one vase. Good. No restoration. No hairlines. No chips. Slight wear to exteriors. Vase 1: Minor flaking under rim. Kiln effects: overglazed shrinkage crack to one handle. A few pieces of kiln detritus under rim. Couple of small glaze misses to rim. Vase 2: No flakes. Kiln effects: minor shrinkage crack to foot rim. Some small pieces of kiln detritus to exterior. Glaze crater to tip of one leaf. Base is uneven causing the vase to rock slightly. 10.5ins high « Less

Victorian, circa 1860 Staffordshire double spill vase in the form of Malakoff castle. Modeled on a naturalistic base with title ''MALAKOFF'' in raised black capitals. Black base line and decoration around the pierced windows. Malakoff was part of the Sebastopol complex, which fell to the allies in September 1855 during the Crimean War. Similar piece illustrated figure 3141, page 272, Schiffer''s ''Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875'' Book 2, by A.& N. Harding. Fair. No restoration. Chips to turrets on the larger spill.
