#3001. Original and stunning 19th century white marble life size sculpture representing a bathing woman. The piece stand on top of a superb green marble pedestal. A stunning piece with museum quality, could be use as interior or exterior decoration. Comes from a Parisian state. CONDITION: Very good shape with old repair and crack on the neck as shown in pictures. Good shape for age. MEASURES: 92" HIGH / 7FT 8" (INCLUDING PEDESTAL) 54" HIGH / 4FT 6" (SCULPTURE ONLY) 38" HIGH (PEDESTAL) . France, dates back to the 1890's.NOTE: Pictures were taken both with and without flash light so you can see the tone of the patina with different types of light. GERMANY LATE 19TH-EARLY 20TH CENTURY German sculptor, painter and etcher. Born in Duisburg-Meiderich, son of a miner. Attended the School of Arts and Crafts in D-4sseldorf 1895-9 and the D-4sseldorf Academy 1901-7. Made social realist sculptures influenced by Meunier, then figures inspired to some extent by Rodin. Visited Italy in 1905 and 1912. Lived 1910-14 in Paris, where he met Matisse, Archipenko, Brancusi and others. Apparently came under the influence of Maillol and then began to make his figures thinner and more elongated, with a prevailing air of melancholy. First one-man exhibition at the Galerie Levesque, Paris, 1914. Returned in 1914 to Berlin, where he worked as nurse in a military hospital. The suffering and misery he saw there are reflected in his late sculptures such as 'Fallen Man' 1915-16, a masterpiece of Expressionism. Lived 1917-18 in Zurich, then returned to Berlin where he committed suicide.   « Less

Unusual early Dehua, or Blanc de Chine figure. This is the companion piece to the Mandarin figure I am offering here also. Please note the early wheeled sedan chair, belt and incredible file details such as fringe on collar, layered underskirts, etc. The figure is 11 1/4" (29cm) by 5" (2cm). This is a period piece, though unsigned, the companion Mandarin bears a detailed inscription, translated from the Chinese on item 430453 There is minor wear, and small areas which could be restored if desired, but not deemed necessary, such as fringe on garment, and part of hair ornament. Please contact me for more photos or additional details. It was the opinion of Warren Antiques, Laguna Beach CA that these may be theatrical characters.   « Less

Circa 1880 Handsome Alabaster Figure / Sculpture of the world renown German composer Richard Wagner (1813-1883). The detail in the carving of the alabaster is very fine, soft and elegant with "mutton chop" side burns and a chin strap beard. He is wearing a beret and a ruffled cravat which falls into the vest beneath his overcoat. The pedestal he sits on has leaves and horns and is marked under the torso "wagner". The veining within the alabaster is a light golden caramel. The bust is 7" tall and 4 1/2" shoulder to shoulder. There are no chips or breaks to this lovely piece. Excellent condition.   « Less
