Victorian, circa 1860 Staffordshire clock group entitled ''V. RIFLES'' in raised dull gilt capitals. Two soldiers stand either side of a clock face, which has a drum, bugle and two flags resting on top. Two legs and two arms are molded free. Dull gilt decoration and clock hands. Vent hole to reverse. This figure was produced in 1860 in response to the Anglo-French war scare. Over 13,000 Volunteer Rifles were enlisted, and were reviewed by Queen Victoria in Hyde Park. Some small paint losses to the ground, gun, grapes, waist bag and strap, and rim of drum. Rubbing to gilt.
