A classical moonlit landscape is depicted on the central panel of this exquisite work of art, no doubt a work-sample for larger pieces of furniture. On a ground of chocolate-brown lacquer are painted forests and river, along which are trees, mountains,a villa, a small boat and two small figures on a bridge observing the scene, all in green, red and gilt lacquers. The incorporated frame has diapered sections interspersed with stylized floral motifs. Overall fine condition, with some slight, stabilized flaking. Approximately 15-1'2 inches by 8-1/4 inches by 3/8 inch deep.Chinese, late Eighteenth Century to early Nineteenth Century. « Less

Outstanding Imperial Japanese Meiji ding shaped bronze vessel. Most likely late Edo or early Meiji period this outstanding example has it all. A dozen inlaid Mons (Japanese family names or symbols for them), silver and gold overlaid over silver wire. Fantastic designs, Imperial 16 leaf Mon, Governmental presentation kiri flower Mon in a classic Ding style bronze vessel. The Government Seal of Japan, also called the Paulownia Seal (æ¡ç´‹, kirimon?) is a mon or a crest used by the Cabinet of Japan and the Government of Japan on official documents. One version is used as the official emblem of the office of the Prime Minister of Japan. It resembles a stylized kiri or paulownia flower with 5-7-5 leaves. The more general governmental seal is a 3-5-3 configuration like this one. The inlay and overlay of the silver wire is done with great skill, but lacks the more bold extremes of the later Meiji pieces. The gold appears to be a light thin coat of gold or possibly even a heavy leaf overlay as are most pieces of this vintage. An obvious important piece and undoubtedly a presentation piece of some type. The piece is EX- Michael Goedhuis and bears the sticker and an Inventory number of Y 5579. Probably the 55th item from 1979 as he converted from extremely high end antiques to mostly contemporary Asian art in 1995. Great provenance and a great piece in excellent condition, with only some scattered interior bits of green verdigris inside the piece. Patina is 99.9% undisturbed. Fantastic piece. Circa 1850 and 9 1/4'' tall and 10+ inches wide. Impressive piece that is quite heavy. A highlight piece in any collection even a museum. Status: For Sale Reference#: 0302_2966 Condition: vg Year: 1850 « Less

Circa 1840 Chinese Export Pair of Sacred Bird and Butterfly Dinner Plates measuring 10" in diameter. This particular Pair of Plates are in the Sacred Bird and Butterfly Pattern and are slightly different than what we usually get in this pattern. It is a much deeper orange and the pattern is a bit tighter. Both of these plates are in very good condition with no chips, cracks or restoration. They are a identical pair. The bird and the butterflies are absolutely fantastic. « Less

Circa 1840 Chinese Export Rose Mandarin Cache Pot. This particular form is also referred to as a jardineer or planter. The top part is definetely Rose Mandarin. Very Good Quality with continuous mandarin scenes. The underplate is actually rose canton with no mandarin figures which in a jardineer would make sense. The underplate takes a lot of abuse from the dirt and water and other chemicals used to grow orchids. As well as other plant forms for making a beautiful centerpiece in a home. The height to the top of the planter is almost 6". The diameter of the base undertray is also 6". The top "Opening" measures 4 1/2". The full diameter of the top is 6 1/8". This is a item most desirable by decorators for clients. We have priced this desirable cache pot at a very reasonable price. « Less

circa: 1950 width: 85 height: 22 length: 14 This charming antique bench was crafted in China around 1950. We recently purchased it at an estate auction in England and imported it to our store in Atlanta. The red painted finish looks quite striking, as does the accentual painted gilding around the shaped edges of the apron. Although the paint has developed some cracking, it remains stable and durable against wear, while the structure of the bench itself is quite firm. This is due in part to the fact that the underlying wood is most likely teak, and so it is very strong. Perfect as an accent or covered outdoor piece, this antique Chinese bench remains in good overall condition and would make a fine addition to any antique collection! « Less
